Owner description: A rock formation that looks like a sledgehammer.

Just because someone gave it a name doesn't make it special. There are so many other fins and hoodoos with unusal shapes; there is one at rainbow point that looks like a poodle. Yeah, you'll see it on the navajo trail but there's so much else that's better.

You have to be a keen observer to spot Thor's hammer. It is easily seen from Navajo loop.

Thor's Hammer is one of the best known rock formations in Bryce Canyon National Park, and should be a must see when visiting.

This might sound silly, but the guide books gave us the impression that this formation would be much larger than it actually is. Still a good photo, but a little let down.

Just go to Sunset point and walk to the Southeastern corner of the paved walkway that follows the rim. There is a short paved trail (Wall Street Trail) that will take you right along side Thor's Hammer...only about 5 minutes or so). Thor's Hammer is a perfectly named hoodoo that is very photogenic. By walking down this trail, the very top of the 'hammer' will be outlined by the sky, which makes for a great photo.
