We visited Bryce National Park in clear weather and found it lacking in "rim ride" interest for the most part. Too many tour busses and most scenery was out of view from roadway. We stopped at the visitor center and watched the movie, searched out suggested trails, programs and walks of interest. The star gazer programs are a must. We also opted to take the Navajo/Queens Garden Loop trail with a suggested time of 2-3 hours. Being over 65 I would like to make a suggestion for fellow golden hikers. Take this hike. DO NOT wear sandals or silly shoes. Be sure your shoes have grip as you are walking down slickrock with some loose gravel. CARRY WATER and drink it even if you are not thirsty. Start at Navajo on the Wall Street decent. It is spectacular. The walk is slow paced and grand. Watch for rocks to sit on or the benches slipped in along the trail.
Take a break and enjoy the beauty. Going up Queens Garden is and should be slow with plenty of breaks to enjoy the scenery. If you do it this way the strain ohn your knees and heart will be less. Remember the elevation is offering 70% LESS oxygen than you are used to having walking around. This is a MUST hike for all levels. Nothing to be afraid of so Enjoy.
