“Worth the extra for the "back yard"”

I paid $199/night for a cabin here, and meals aren't included. Also, the only wi-fi is in the lodge building, and it gets really slow at meal times. Also, no TV. Well, you don't come here for TV, or internet. You come here for what you get when you step out and walk a short distance out the back - one of America's great natural wonders. The staff is wonderful, and they can arrange stuff like bus tours (recommended and free) and horseback rides. The room was comfortable enough, and spacious, and there's a gas fireplace for when it gets cold, which is most nights - that is, after all, how the canyon was formed.

Room Tip: Don't forget to pack a decent pair of ankle-high hiking boots for the Queen's Garden/Navajo...

We planned a trip to the southwest national parks and decided, whenever possible, to stay in the park. This is why we chose the Bryce Canyon Lodge. The location was perfect, on the road to all the observation areas and lookouts. The Lodge is set among the pine trees and very appropriate to the area. We stayed in the "sunset view" hotel unit. Everything was updated and clean. This is rustic, rather than fancy. We were very pleased with the room. There is a restaurant at the Lodge and also a small pizza place. Neither was particularly good. If you're staying several days I would figure out someplace to eat. Otherwise, a great stay.

The hoodoos are literally in your backyard! Very basic accommodation! Small rooms, super small! No pool! But Bryce is cold most of the time, so did not miss that! Really enjoyed viewing the park in various times of the day. Beware of sudden rains especially on horse back rides. Go prepared.

Room Tip: If you desire luxury, this is not your stop!

This lodge is in an unbeatable location just near the "canyon" rim. The lodge itself is quite interesting but dark and disappointingly motel like inside.
The main problem is that the restaurant does not take bookings or give priority to guests. Since there is no other restaurant within the park it is intolerable that most of the tables are taken by walk-ins. You can't even get a drink in the lounge whilst waiting.
Add to all this that the lodge is deliberately understaffed at the end of the season (Oct/Nov) and that the service in the restaurant (if you caan get in!!) was resultingly poor I shall give this place a wide berth next time.

On this trip we stayed inside the parks at Grand Canyon North Rim, Zion, and Bryce. At GCNR it is most important to do so because everything else is so far away. At Zion it is least important because Springdale is very close with many options- but maybe because of this competition, we found Zion to be the best managed facility. Bryce is in-between; there are other options not too far away, but as with all of them, there is something special about being inside the park. Bryce seemed to have fewer tour groups staying onsite (I think maybe they stay at the large Ruby's complex) so that makes it more pleasant for independent travelers. We were not able to reserve a cabin, but our motel room was so nice that we wondered if we shouldn't have gone that route at the other parks. The room was large, clean, comfortable, attractive, and had a nice balcony. There are two in-park options for meals- the dining room and a small facility that has pizza and some other choices. The dining room does not have a view like the other two parks' dining rooms, but it has a nice cozy atmosphere and we had some very good dinners (especially the fish dishes). Service was slow but pleasant. One night we decided to save money (the menu is a bit pricey) and just get fast food at the other place- it took us over an hour from getting in line to getting food, and there were only 3 people in line. I think they messed up the order and started over. Ridiculous. However, we took the meal back to our room where we had our own wine and it was very pleasant.

Our previous stay in one of the cabins at Bryce Canyon Lodge wasn't so bad. This time, however, the sounds of little feet skittering around inside the walls at night was just too much. Given the outbreaks of rodent-borne illnesses, one would think that Forever Resorts would try to maintain the cabins so that the little critters can't get in. The gas fireplace looked sort of ragtag, and I didn't see a carbon monoxide or smoke detector in the room, The only reason for staying in the park is to be there at sunrise and sunset, but you can stay outside the park and set your alarm early. For around $200.00 a night, you should be able to find something better. The service at the restaurant was hit or miss. Dinner and lunch were fine, but breakfast left a lot to be desired. Coffee was refilled grudgingly, if at all. Items ordered with breakfast never appeared. Our last day there I was paying cash for breakfast. The server went for change, said she had to ask her manager, and never reappeared. I asked the man who seemed to be in charge if he could find her for me. He told me that she was 79 years old and could be forgetful and slow. I was sorry to hear that, but the restaurant really needs to look at providing decent service at breakfast time.

Room Tip: Avoid the cabins unless you want unwelcome visitors.

We stayed in a room in the Sunrise lodge. It was very nice and comfortable. It even had a microwave and refrigerator that I didn't expect in a national park lodge. The room was clean and well appointed. We had a nice little deck outside our room. The view from the deck is of wooded fields and the trails to the rim. The proximity to the rim was wonderful. We took our coffee out to the rim in the morning to watch the sunrise. We were so glad we had stayed in the lodge to be able to do this. The staff was nice and friendly, although we had no special needs or requests. We enjoyed our dinner in the lodge. It is expensive, but the food and service were very good. Staying in the lodge also let us be near the park in the evening to attend the astronomy program that the rangers put on on certain nights of the week. They put on two talks, one in the lodge and one at the visitors center, followed by a chance to look at stars through telescopes set up by amateur volunteer astronomers behind the visitors center. The whole family, including my two teenage boys thoroughly enjoyed this program. We found it definitely worth staying in the lodge for the convenience of being so close to the park. One note for those physically challenged, the parking lot is not that close to the rooms and it is a long way to bring your luggage to and from your car. Also there are no TVs in the room. I also do not think there is air conditioning, but this was not an issue the time of year we went. We slept with the windows open to enjoy the fresh air. We loved our stay!

Room Tip: The rooms in the Sunrise lodge were great. No problems with mice as mentioned in reviews of the cab...
