This has to be the most popular trail at the Badlands. It's wheelchair accessible which means it's on a boardwalk and is an easy walk for anyone of any age. There are little fossil display cases along the way with clear plexiglas (?) covers so you can see what's in them, along with a description of the fossil.

“Not much to it.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

This trail was very short & totally in the sun. You get better fossil information in the visitor's center. If you need to skip a trail, this one was very forgettable.

“A must stop with Kids”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2013

We were impressed with the Fossil Exhibit Trail. It is just as it says, a trail that has covered fossil exhibits with the fossils left where they were found. This is an easy loop trail with some smaller buttes for climbing. I felt much more comfortable with my boys exploring this area of the Badlands with their climbing (lower heights!). The Jr. Ranger program taught here on Fossils was pretty good and kept the interest of the kids that were atleast 6 years old. This stop has a bathroom too. The first day we stopped here it was cooler. The second day it was 100 degrees and there were a ton of flies in the bathroom and they bite! Wish I had known to look for these little black flies. They are terrible. They aren't always there, but when they are look out.

“Nice short walk to view fossils”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

Although it was HOT out, we enjoyed our walk on this short trail- good for all ages. The kids enjoyed seeing all of the fossils on display. The walkway was paved so it was easy to walk along, and to stay on the trail. There were several fossils on display, with an explanation of each. The area is just beautiful! We did expect it to be a bit longer than it was... but it was still a nice spot to get out of the car and walk a bit.

“Short and only a couple of fossils”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2013

We attended a ranger led talk on fossils, where they brought a display of different examples of fossils. The talk was only about 15 minutes. The trail is really short and had a few fossils along the boardwalk. Luckily, the Castle Trail is across the street and that was much more interesting. We actually found a couple of fossils that we reported at the Visitor Center (you can't take them with you), they'll investigate and then send us a report with what they find which I think is really cool.
