The loop road was the only view allowed when coming through the Badlands in October, returning from Colorado. The National Parks had been shut down due to the Feds budget situation and the loop road was really the only way to see the Badlands. I believe the appeal of Badlands National Park is the defiance in its terrain. It remains untouched by man and on a planet where humanity has lost humanity in its approach to the environment, it is amazing to see a world where man cannot ... dare not? .... build to claim it somehow. It is beautiful in its own way. It will not be for everyone. But if you experience it and find yourself a year or more later, going back through, and your admiration is regenerated, you may be like those of us who keep going back. If you want to see the beauty in sunsets and/or sunrises in the Badlands, make sure you check out CIRCLE VIEW RANCH B&B or the CEDAR PASS Lodge. It well be worthwhile to see either the beginning or the end of the day in the Badlands.
