“Desolate, yet Gorgeous!”
Reviewed December 9, 2012

This was a beautiful drive through some desolate country. Badlands is a little ways away from most things but definitely worth a stopover when you’re in the Mt. Rushmore area. We went through it on our way back to Nebraska. Stopped at some overlooks, went to the visitor center (pretty small) and just basically enjoyed the views. Would have liked to do a little hiking to really enjoy the desolation and even possibly stay overnight, but due to time constraints didn’t get a chance to. I would not say there is that much to do there beyond that. Worth the stop, spend a few hours max, but unless you plan on doing some hiking that’s probably going to be the extent of your stay. Bathrooms are few and far between, my wife didn’t care for the fact that the ones we found (not at the visitors center) were pit toilets only. A must drive through park though, just plan ahead for bathrooms.

“An Amazing Place”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

Having visited this location about 15 years ago, I remember it being fun but I was not prepared for what a great day this turned out to be. The loop road was perfection - exactly what I would love to see every National Park standard be. It was newly repaved, extra wide and had plenty of pull offs. And the best part - the pull offs were identified, so as you are turning a corner, you know to be on the lookout for something amazing. The visitors center was great with lots of interactive activities for children. I loved the ability to roam around the Badlands via the clearly marked trails. Just a great park.

“Truly God's Wonder”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

After seeing Mt Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial and other man made wonders, we were totally blown away by one of God's creations. The Badlands! There is no way any picture can do this area justice! Driving the loop is well worth the fee paid. Every overlook displays absolute beauty! The right timing allows you to see some wildlife also.

The gift shop and cafe were closed for the season but I understand from those that have been there say the food is excellent.

The Badlands Loop is a must see and drive through!

“South Dakota's Grand Canyon!”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

We were driving back to the East Coast from Washington State when we decided to stop at Badlands National Park. Upon entering the park at Pinnacles Entrance, we proceeded to drive to the first scenic overlook, Pinnacles Overlook. The view was breath-taking, even at 3:15 pm on an overcast afternoon. Continuing on the winding and often steep Badlands Loop Road, we paused for stunning views of the Badlands at every marked scenic overlook, taking in the amazing landscape scenery which was more beautiful when the sun peeked through the clouds. Rounding a curve after one of the many stops, we had to stop the car as two Bighorn Sheep crossed the road right in front of us! Further down the road, we spotted another Bighorn Sheep standing alone of top of a butte and then a herd of deer farther down the road. Prairie dogs were cute to watch as well. Spending about two hours driving along the 39-mile loop was well worth the visit. I would love to come back and hike some of the trails. Well worth the visit!
