We wanted to stop here - both areas were full and there was no overflow areas - so, you may get lucky or you will miss it like us.

We did all the moderate trails in the Acadia trail map. All the trails are good and this one was no exception. Good views when you get to the top. Hike will give you some cardio exercise. Not a walk in the park but not too difficult. Good thing about this trail was it not too crowded so if you looking for a peaceful but challenging hike I would recommend it.

Route:
Up South Bubble
Down to Jordan Pond (slightly challenging, but not horrible)
Counter-clockwise around Jordan Pond (about 2 miles)
Ended at the Jordan Pond House

Time:
3 hours

Comments:
An interesting little hike. At the summit, there is this giant boulder that looks as if it's about to fall off the edge (think Willie Coyote going after the Road Runner). You can get some great pictures here. Equally as good is the view of Jordan Pond from this summit.

Other ideas:
1) Coordinate with a reservation for Popovers at Jordan Pond
2) For a longer hike, go up North Bubble first and then head to South Bubble, etc...

I hiked from the Jordan Pond side of Bubbles Trail over South Bubble & to the Bubbles Divide, then down the Bubbles Divide back towards the pond. From Jordan Pony to the top of South Bubble, the trail is rated as moderate but does involve scrambling up rocks and a few iron rungs. You definitely don't want to try to go down this way or even go up with small children. Going down (or up) the back side of South Bubble is a fairly easy hike. Bubbles Divide towards the parking area is appropriately rated easy, but going west towards the tip of Jordan Pond involved climbing through a hillside boulder field and I met up with a group that had underestimated the difficulty and was not having a fun time.

The views from the top were amazing and I enjoyed them more than the views from Cadillac Mountain. It was also slightly less crowded since you have to hike up, though I was far from alone since it was peak season.

Remember the "Choose your own adventure" books? The Bubbles - and Bubble Rock - is sort of like that. To see Bubble Rock, you want to hike South Bubble (North Bubble is a separate hike). Then, choose if you'd prefer an easy vs. a little more strenuous hike. The trial head from the parking lot (limited parking!) is a very easy hike which even those in not-great shape can do comfortably. The other way up is at the north end of Jordan Pond...this requires climbing rocks (blue markings indicate the path) vs. a standard trail. I'd stick to the easy side if you have really small kids or are not at least marginally physically fit. Otherwise, the rocky side a fun climb. Either way you go, once you're at the top you get a great view of Jorday Pond, and of course, Bubble Rock (try to push it off...eveyone does, without success).
