“Busy beach, clean water”

Echo Lake is one of the few freshwater areas that allow swimming in Acadia National Park. Since the water is quite a bit warmer than the cold Atlantic it is fairly popular on nice days. Even when busy there is lots of room on the beach and plenty of parking. There are changing rooms on site as well as foot showers to rinse the sand off. Enjoy the swim!

We originally took our kayaks to the swimming beach as recommended on there in the forum area - well, that is a real long haul from parking lot to the shore and i don't know even if it is permitted. So then we proceeded to the boat launch area down the road a bit. It was very busy and we were lucky to find a parking spot. Most of the people were NOT boating but swimming there. Which, made it tough for launching your boats. I would recommend that they put up no swimming signs so that spot can be reserved for people wanting to use the boating ramp as it was intended.
Go in the morning to avoid high winds as the middle of the lake had white caps the day we went.
You could not see to the bottom at 50 feet as I was told (again in the forum) - the water is clear and the day we went was sunny - but, I only could see to maybe 15 feet?
The water was in the mid 70s, so we went back to the Ledges (hidden gem) and jumped from the rocks - just beautiful and so much fun too!

What a Great Lake! The water is so clear, great sand. Lots of parking. Less crowded. I wish we had brought our swimmers for a dip! This place is a must visit, very scenic too!

I would recommend this over Sand beach. Reason are

1. More parking available
2. There are shaded portion on the beach. So you can chose a place under the sun if you want to.
3. Less crowded.

If you want a place to take a quick dip and enjoy the sun highly recommend this.

My boys and husband loved Echo Lake. There is parking alongside the road, a restroom at the parking lot, and then a short trail down to many different rocky spots to sit and sun, or jump into the water. While my boys did get into the 55-degree water at Sand Beach, they actually ENJOYED the water at Echo Lake. It is clear, deep enough for jumping and diving, great for folks who want a long swim across the lake, or kids who want a quick paddle around. I sat on the rock in the sun and loved it, too, but stayed dry. It was quite popular while we were there, as it was the first warm day in a while, but we had a rock to ourselves and never felt overcrowded. Folks of all ages, dogs, babies, and families galore were all having a good time.
