Nice area - changing rooms, bathrooms, lifeguards, roped off areas... the works. The water is "warm". When a Maine tourist brochure means warm, they mean "warmer than the ocean", not warm in any sense that a person from farther south would mean warm. Being from New Jersey, the water was still pretty darn cold. The water is refreshing, whether with a gang of teenaged Boy Scouts or with your wife and kid (I've been here both ways). The lake is pretty to look at with overhanging cliffs.
Next time I came here, I'd hike up and down the steep 0.8 mile (one way) Beech Cliffs Trails (steep, complete with ladders - great views!) that starts at the Echo Lake Parking lot, then go in the lake to cool off. Would be a great half of a day!
