Whatever level biker you are this is such a relaxing scenic ride through lush forests and past beautiful lakes. So many spots for Kodak moments. We stopped at Jordan Pond and had popovers with a delicious lunch. This time of year ,during the week, turned out to be a great time to enjoy the carrriage roads. There weren't many people at all biking.

Great bike trails (mountain or hybrid bikes), quiet, no traffic, fantastic scenery. some hills could be difficult for novice riders. Be sure to get Carriage Road map from visitors center and watch for private property signs on map to avoid closed loops.

We spent five days in Acadia National Park and biked the carriage trails two separate days. The first day, we rode the entire loop around Witch Hole Pond and then the Eagle Lake loop for a total of close to 12 miles. We brought our hybrid bikes and they rode the finely crushed gravel roads with no problem. There are definitely some steep areas, but all of us were able to make most of them in low gear without having to push the bikes up the hills. We were given a tip by one of the rangers for the Eagle Lake loop to go left out of the Eagle Lake parking lot to begin the loop. There is a pretty steep incline for approximately .9 miles, but was better than taking the loop off to the right which included a steady incline for over 2 miles! We happily rode downhill on that section passing lots of tired looking bikers coming uphill. The .9 mile uphill on the route was pretty challenging, but I never had to get off the bike at all in low gear. A couple of days later, we rode the Jordan Pond/Bubble Pond loop, and part of the Eagle Lake loop (the downhill section!) which was approximately 11-1/2 miles total. Again, park in the Eagle Lake parking lot and go to your left. You won't do the .9 mile steep incline on this loop, but you will get plenty of steep inclines around Jordan Pond! We stopped for popovers and chowder at the Jordan Pond House. The popovers were definitely worth the stop! There are plenty of places to stop and enjoy the beautiful views of mountains, lakes and streams. If you are visiting Acadia, take time to enjoy the carriage trails!

Great trails for biking but be prepared for long inclines. Some signage could have been more clear. Folks at welcome center have great recommendations for trails to follow.

This is not to do if you are in a hurry. The horses move slow.It was relaxing to us. Your guide will tell you some history of Acadia, you can get out & stretch your legs.We did the 4 to 6pm one. I think on the bridges tour they only show you like 3 of them anyway.
