We totally enjoyed this hike. It offered a ton of variety....next to the pond, up elevations, through rocks, and tree roots. It was beautiful. We spent about four hours going up and back down. Great hike!

We had heard good things about the Jordan Pond restaurant so we arrived about mid-morning so that we could walk the trail around the pond and then be able to have lunch in the restaurant. The trail around the pond was a nice, relaxing hike--however, it had many areas where you were walking over boulders so it wouldn't be for those you have walking difficulties. The restaurant was excellent. If you want outdoor seating, you have to make reservations--and they fill up fast. We choose to eat inside and were quickly seated. The food was delicious and they were not skimpy with the amounts. It is a little pricey but we decided the quantity made up for that.

Jordan Pond sits right in the center of Acadia National Park, a beautiful spot for a level trail hike. On the east side, one walks along forest and on the other side looks upon a high cliff in which Peregrine falcons nest in June.

However, one must be aware that only the east half of the trail is easy and anyone with hip or knee problems should turn back at the top of the pond. The trail at the base of the cliff traverses a section of granite boulders over which one must clamber. After that section of about 100 meters, the trail continues over marshy ground but one must walk on an elevated split log path, about 18 inches wide, that requires some balance. Dropping off the path will only lead to wet feet but it makes for a slow hike and requires constant attention to where one places one's feet. That means that you cannot look around at either the forest or the water without some risk of an embarrassing descent off the boardwalk. We encountered gaggles of school children having a great time on this section but they were looking down, not around.

Still, a very pleasant place for a walk.

Our hike around the pond was amazing. Being an Ohio girl and used to flat grounds it was a small challenge. There is a part where you climb over rocks. The nice part is that there was usually something to hold on to. As we were walking there was a deer not 6 feet away from us at the edge of the pond. Such beauty!!
The food in the restaurant was really good and the popovers delicious. Beautiful scenery as you sit and eat. If you are at the park don't miss it.
We were there June 10 and had no problems with mosquitoes at all.
