Owner description: Center offering visitors an audio-visual presentation, maps, special events and the opportunity to talk to rangers.

Acadia NP is of course lovely, and we are glad we visited. But this visitor center is poor. Packed on a summer weekend, the center is up many stairs. Fine, I don't mind a walk, but it is quite small and crowded. There weren't enough staff on hand to deal with all the visitors. There was a gigantic line for the three women's toilet stalls. The gift shop section was overpriced. In short, it was a zoo. There is a National Park center in Bar Harbor itself, and had we known where it was before, we would have just gone there instead. If you are staying right in Bar Harbor, or get there early so you can park, do yourself a favor and utilize the facility in Bar Harbor, which will give you much more time to do what you came for: exploring Acadia National Park. Definitely avid the visitor center if you can, especially in peak summer season.

Long lines on 8/25 free day. We needed a week's pass so I waited on the line and it moved rather quickly. While being served a young boy came up to ask what the line was for. The ranger coldly told him to wait - she was in the right, but it came off badly - I told him what the deal was. They should've had someone to explain what was going on.

Try to go in the early morning or after 4 pm there are less lines. Rangers are very helpful , answered all my questions, marked locations on a map and even suggested places. There is a short video to watch and gift shop. We found the best hikes for our experience level and loved them all! It is 20$ for a week for a car to enter Acadia, or 40$ for the year.

The visitor's center should be your first stop when entering Acadia, so that you can get all the information you need. Take a map and watch the short film about Acadia before setting out to explore. I recommend starting your time in the park in the mid-afternoon, as you will not need over 4 hours (depending on what you do). Make sure you ask what time sunset is, and be on Cadillac Mountain 30 minutes before that time!

This year was our first trip to Maine. There is so much to see that we almost did not have enough time to visit the park, but thank goodness we found the time! Getting there is easy! The entrance fee was only $20 and that pass lasts for quite a few days. Had we had the time we would have definitely come back to the park each day. Definite must see!
