Our 10-yo and 13-yo had never hiked before our Acadia trip on 8/2013, and their first was the Gorham Mountain. Gorham was pretty easy so we decided to do Beehive the next day. Kids’ enthusiasm and excitement more than made up for their inexperience, and the hike was *amazing*. Yes there are some parts of the trail that leave you somewhat exposed, but we never felt in danger. Just make sure you follow the blue marks. My wife wasn’t sure if she could make it, so she took the back (and easier) path to the summit and actually beat us to the top; so if you have somebody in your party who’s afraid of height, this is an alternative. Overall this was a rewarding experience and one of the most memorable of our Acadia trip.
