“360 degree views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2014

One could either hike or drive to the summit to take in the gorgeous views of Acadia National Park. Well marked trails, lots of people, next time we'll hike.

“Secrets to doing the sunrise on Cadillac Mtn!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2014

Here's what you NEED to know about making a sunrise trip up the mountain more enjoyable:
- Get there early (ideally 45 min pre-sunrise) for a few reasons: 1) the sky is most magnificent before the actual stated sunrise time. 2) You'll find a parking spot - it gets really crowded. 3) You can have your choice of spots to soak in the beauty.
- Parking: Stay left as you enter the parking area (to the right, the parking spots are very limited). Important: drive around towards the exit to find a parking space...this will save you an enormous amount of time when you are trying to leave the parking lot along with everybody else!!!
- Clothing: Dress warm and with layers. Bring a blanket. It's breezy up there and it WILL be colder than you expect.
- Don't be lazy...just do it. No one enjoys getting up at 4AM (unless they're slightly nuts), but you won't regret it (and you can even go back to your room and get more sleep aferwards!!).
- Enjoy! Post pictures on Facebook and Instagram and make your firends jealous.

“God Is The Greatest Artist”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2014

The views from the top of Cadillac Mountain were simply stunning! Don't miss this if you are in Acadia.

BE CAREFUL - especially with children. We saw a man trip and fall off a boulder while we were there - his hands were cut up pretty bad. This is BEDROCK, one can really get hurt.

GO EARLY
See the sunrise if you can! If not, go as early as you can and avoid the crowds and cyclists.

DRIVING:
BEWARE OF CYCLISTS!!! They actually do ride up Cadillac mountain! This stressed me out greatly - I thought my husband was going to hit one every time we rounded a turn. IN addition ***THERE IS NO SHOULDER. Thusly, when you come upon a cyclist you have to stay behind them - until (if you're lucky enough) there's a spot for them to pull over. You cannot pass them because it's all curves - you can't see what's coming at you from the other side. No offense to them: but they are a menace and should be banned from the roadways of the park. There are cycling trails - why not use those?

If you make it up the mountain (and down!) with all the nutty cyclists you will have memories of beautiful vistas that last a lifetime :) Enjoy!

“Great, easy day hike for all!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2014

We went up the Gorge Trail (~2 miles up) summiting Mt. Dorr, then Cadillac (another .6 miles) and went down the North Ridge Trail (~2.2 miles). Lunch at the top was great, TONS of blueberries to eat trailside, and a great view. Can't wait to hike it again! Took us about 4 hours total, including about an hours worth of stops for pictures and blueberries :)

Definitely go up Gorge and down North Ridge. North Ridge has better views going down (north) and Gorge lets you see the water hiking south.

“VERY doable with kids”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2014 via mobile

This is the review I had been trying to find a few days ago. We did the South Ridge trail today with out 3 kids- almost 6, 7.5 and 9.5. They cranked it out up and back in about four and a half hours with ample time for snacks, blueberry picking, lunch and view ogling. Oh, also stood in line for ages at the visitor center to buy 3 ice creams. Sigh. It was long- about 7 miles- but very doable. There's a lot of shade and the grade is not very steep. Our kids are sturdy hikers but not mountaineers.

If you don't need a postcard or an ice cream, I'd skip the visitor center. You might also stop a little shy of the true summit if you're misanthropic. The view is just as amazing and there's a fraction of the people.
