“Fantastic”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

I would say"this is the # 1 place to visit in Maine" Breath taking views of Bar Harbor and other islands. Great views of the Acadia national park, Ocean, lakes and coast of Maine. Sunset views are very pretty and full moon is just amazing. A must visit place.

“Hike up the North Ridge to Summit”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

We drove up to the summit our first day and loved the views. Couple days later we hiked up the north ridge trail to the summit and found the vistas breathtaking (beyond our huffing and puffing). Pack fluids and snacks for there are several places to just stop and enjoy the views.
Trail well marked and not too crowded.
Wear hats and sunscreen as alot of the trail is beyond forest cover.
Enjoyable half day for all ages. Moderate climb so wear good traction shoes.
Note, we are afraid of heights but this climb was so gradual and beautiful that we werent scared. No shear dropoffs.

“Worth the Wait”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

If you've read other reviews, you know that you've got to get there early to see a sunrise or sunset. We got there 30 minutes before sunset and had a hard time finding a place to park anywhere on the access road and the parking lot. We eventually found a spot.
The second night we went up, we packed a dinner and gave us 90 minutes. We easily found a spot on the way up, parked, and then hiked about 100 feet on to a large, flat rocky area (of which there are plenty!)
This year there was a bag piper playing at sunset here and another one at Bass Harbor Light on a different night. Not sure if this is a common event and which places are covered by the pipers but it was pretty cool anyway!

“Great Views”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

There are fantastic views of the whole park from here. You could spend quite a bit of time here exploring the rock trails and various sides of the mountain. The problem is that there is limited parking here and it is quite rude to take a "long term" parking spot from someone else.

Beautiful spot to view all of Acadia National Park. Grandkids left some DNA from scraped knees on the rocks!
