Amazing building. The location of the church is great for couple of photos. Worth visit. Be aware from couple of drunk guys in front of the church.

If your tired and hot after wandering around the lovely busy town that Zakynthos surely is, have a stroll to the imposing building that is the church of Agios Dionyssios, the tall bell tower is detached from the main body of the church it is easy to find just go down to the main seafront harbour road (Lombardou) and turn right, you will not fail to miss the building at the end of the harbour road. One word of advice if you're walking on the seaward side of the road it means you have to cross over, grab anything you may have of value tightly ( children wives and or girlfriends etc) and just imagine you are lined up in a 100 meter sprint final, you've got the idea, when a gap appears in the traffic it won't be there for long so make the most of it and go! There, once across have a good look at the outside before going into the church, on entering ladies will be offered a black veil to drape over their shoulders but only if they are bare ( the shoulders that is, not the ladies)! Once inside spend time to have a good look around both above, below and behind, the work detailed is amazing and of course from a religious point of view the church is held in great reverence.
Should you be fortunate enough to meet father Nikita he will tell you much about the church you will not find anywhere else, he has served this church for 60 years! also when I asked why pictures were being taken he put one hand over his eyes and said if he can't see then it's not a problem. Enough has been said on the actual contents of the church so It can be left to the individual to find
out for themselves, so if you find yourself with time to spare or even better make it one of the places to visit, lastly as you walk into the church there is a donation box for the poor so any change is always appreciated.

A lot of history, murals, mosaics and old greek traditions you can see here in this beautiful church. Even if you are not religious is worth visiting this place if you want to know and see the old greek traditions. Nice place to refresh your history knowledge.

Whether you are religious or not you will be amazed at the beauty of this traditional church. It is covered in gold and is so peaceful. A really wonderful place to reflect quietly. The greeks are very religious and you see many of them coming to kiss their saints and say their prayers. I've never in my life seen something so ornate. No matter where you look your eyes are met with art and sculpture. The ceilings are covered with beautiful paintings and when you leave you feel at peace.

Well worth a ten minute look around this Greek Orthodox church. Plenty of mosaic, murals, costumes and pictures also lots of history.
A small charge to gain entry.
