Only a few minutes by car but far from the tourist crowds of Uzès, Mas Conil is a respite of quiet, beauty and comfort. We enjoyed a twin room on the second floor, fine beds, beautiful heirloom bed-linens, excellent shower. Our room overlooked a courtyard with flowering trees. The room was completely sound-proof. We heard nothing from outside our room during our stay.
We also booked for the abundant and convivial table d'hote dinner, which brought crisp greens with local chevre toasts, fine roast Sisteron lamb along with rosti (our hosts are Swiss) and wonderful crunchy and garlicky green beans. A cheese plateau offered generous samples of 5 regional cheeses, and dessert was a perfect crème brûlée. Although portions were very generous, seconds were encouraged. Madame had created a basket of extraordinary marbleized Easter eggs from which each guest was invited to choose an egg as souvenir. On our plllows, we found Lindt gilt-wrapped chocolate Easter bunnies.
Our room was 115€, the dinner 50€ a person, which included unlimited and very good local wine, Dinner prices vary according to the quality of ingredients and holiday meals. We had to leave the area early and were not able to enjoy the hosts' celebrated breakfast.
In short, we enjoyed a good room, excellent dinner, interesting fellow diners and very generous hosts. This evening's quality and generosity would have cost much more in a commercial dining room without any of the charm of being a guest in a private home.
