Our wedding took place mid-august at the Lakeside marquee. What a beautiful venue with excellent staff who make sure every detail is perfect. The team have great respect for the property and its surroundings which is why it remains so beautiful. They really are are ultra-professional and I would happily HIGHLY recommend them to anyone thinking of having their big day here.

We held our marriage at Thornton Manor on the 2nd July 2011. We had the most wonderful and amazing day. The staff, led by Dianne & Philip were excellent - nothing, and I mean nothing, was to much trouble and they made us feel so special from the moment we arrived. The service was unobtrusive, yet wonderfully orchestrated and professional.

The Manor is a beautiful beautiful venue and the grounds are simply stunning. When we initially went to view the Manor my wife became overwhelmed as she knew that this was the place of her dreams.

The bride and bridesmaids booked the housekeepers cottage the night before, and the grooms men stayed in the grooms cottage. . Both cottages are 5 star. Each had 4 spacious bedrooms, 2 of which had on suite bathrooms, and a large kitchen and living room to allow us to relax in luxury the night before the wedding.

The bridal party moved to the Lady Lever room on the morning of the wedding. Not only was this room elegant and enchanting, it was also spacious enough to accommodate the bride, 6 bridesmaids, hair stylist and make up artists. The views out onto the Manor are simply out of this world; this place truly is magical. With burning fires in many rooms and candles dotted about the place, it has a magical feel to it.

We still get butterflies in our stomach when we think about the look on our guests faces when they initially arrived at the Manor. Many of them said it was the best wedding they had ever been to, and that they felt like movie stars and celebrities for the day.

We were treated like royalty from the moment we arrived. The Manor is maintained to a very high standard, and maintains all of it's original features. We were also very lucky with the weather and it enabled us to have our ceremony outside. There is an extra cost involved but well worth it. You will not find a more unique or beautiful setting for a wedding.

The staff were always on hand to help with all our needs. At one point, just before my wife was due to walk down the aisle, I needed a quick glass of water to quench my thirst (and nerves). Within seconds I was provided with a glass of iced water – the service was first class.

We hired the Manchester sing out choir to preform during the ceremony and during reception drinks. They were brilliant. They sang 'Adele' during the ceremony and 'ain’t no mountain high enough' as we walked down the aisle as husband & wife.

The weather was perfect so all the guests enjoyed sitting in the grounds drinking Pimms & champagne whilst viewing the stunning scenery. The kids loved exploring the huge gardens and secret doorways (which you'll have to find for yourself !).

The wedding breakfast took place in the magnificent Music Room. This is a wonderful room to entertain in. The high ceilings are beautifully decorated and the period paintings will take your breath away.

The evening kicked off at 8pm with a band called the trunk monkeys. They were brilliant, so friendly, accommodating and the main singer, George has an amazing voice. They got all of our guests dancing throughout the night and into the early hours of the morning.

The bar was well stocked and well managed. The music finished at 1 am, then we moved to another part of the house where we could party as long as we liked. The staff were even serving tea & coffee to our guests at 2 o'clock in the morning.

The experience didn't end there. A number of our guests stayed in the Manor itself and the surroundings cottages. In the morning we all gathered in the Dining room for breakfast. Another enchanting and magical room, decorated with candelabras and flowers. This was a perfect end to a truly wonderful weekend.

Dianne & Philip treated us like friends from the moment we arrived to the moment we left as they waved us goodbye.

This is a very very special place. You will not find a venue like it anywhere in the country. Simply beautiful and the best day of our lives. We miss the Manor!!

My son recently held his wedding at Thornton Manor, and what a sensational day that was! We had over 150 guests, many of whom stayed at the Manor House and in the Cottages, and from the moment we arrived we were all treated like royalty. The venue is amazing and the rooms are delightful and spotless.

The ceremony took place in the grounds of the Manor - which was absolutely stunning. Our guests commented that they felt like they were on a film set as everything was just so magical.

As we had a large number of guests we were slightly concerned about whether the caterers would be able to cope. But we shouldn’t have worried - the food was delicious, the bar was fully stocked and there was ample staff throughout the day, and we were still being offered tea/coffee at 2.00 am in the morning. Nothing was too much trouble for them - for instance, I was about to take my bouquet of flowers up to my room when one of the staff took them from me and duly had them delivered.

Dianne, Philip and all the staff certainly went the extra mile to ensure that it truly was the most perfect day for everyone.

And it didn’t end there. About 40 of our guests joined us for breakfast the following morning, which was another unique occasion, and one we certainly wouldn’t have missed. The dining room was dressed with candelabras and flowers and the Bride and Groom sat in the middle surrounded by their guests. This was a perfect end to the most wonderful weekend anyone could have wished for. What lovely special memories my son and his wife now have of their perfect wedding day in the most amazing surroundings.

We certainly wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this fantastic unique venue.

Awful out dated poor quality electrical connection points.
A mentality of lets charge the customers top rate and deliver poor value.
Health and Safety issues as buildings and all surroundings are not kept to any acceptable minimum standard
Grossly overpriced meals and drinks
Di and Phil the owners and management on site are interested only in turnover not delivery of quality

We attended a family wedding at Thornton Manor but didn`t stay in the hotel itself. The Manor is beautiful building with lovely grounds-- ideal for a wedding. The staff were excellent, making sure all guests were never without a drink or canape during the time between the actual service and the meal, which itself was lovely. Again the meal was served with efficiency and professionalism as you would expect from such a well respected and prestigious venue. However, we may be being picky as we were only guests, but we were surprised to note that the Manor does not have an actual properly functioning bar with beer only sold in bottles or cans. This surprised us as , not only is it an Hotel but it is a very popular wedding venue with virtually all it`s business coming from weddings. Other than that we had a lovely day and thought the Maor and it`s staff were excellent.

We held our Wedding at Thornton Manor in May 2011. The whole day was beautiful and truly magical.

Phil, Dianne and the team were amazing throughout the booking, preparation and day. Special thanks to Hannah and Dianne who were wonderful helping the bride on the day.

All our guests made comment on how beautiful the Manor house and grounds were.
If anyone is thinking of booking a future Wedding, Thornton Manor is the perfect place.

Anne Wilson cordon bleu (Caterer) was amazing and provided a delicous Wedding breakfast and eveving food. Anne and her staff were fantastic and we would recommend anyone looking for a caterer to contact Anne.

After visiting many possible venues in the North West we looked no further after discovering Thornton Manor.
It is an amazing location and had everything we needed to make our daughter's wedding day outstanding. The building itself is fabulous, the reception rooms are stunning, it has real character and panache - it really is the perfect backdrop to the perfect wedding. Philip and Diane and their team exude a "can do" attitude. We were able to make the wedding day and ceremony as individual as we wanted. in such a beautiful, unique and enchanting setting, we could not have asked for more.

They have 22 bedrooms for hire in the main house to suit all budgets, and lots of individual self catering units very close to the house on the beautiful estate. The Bride's party stayed in the Thatched Pavilion the night before the wedding and the Groom and his entourage stayed in the East Lodge, which was spacious enough downstairs for us all to get together for an informal pre wedding meal. It really added to the whole wedding experience staying over the night before. Both cottages were well appointed and just perfect for our needs. The bathrooms were excellent and the beds divine!I

The Bride's party moved over to the Lady Lever Bedroom in the main house the next morning - a beautiful, large and airy room perfect for those final touches of preparation. The groom transfered to his chosen bridal suite, the Tower Bedroom in the main house with it's four poster bed and bright and spacious bathroom.

Having a wedding at the Manor was so special; it is just like one amazing house party, with a wedding in the middle of it! In fact, that is exactly how one of our guests described the experience. It was so relaxing and so incredibly special and unique. So many of our guests said, and are still saying, that it was "the best wedding" they had ever been to. Nothing, and I mean nothing, was too much trouble for the team. Their whole focus was to make our day perfect, and they did! We could not fault the unobtrusive service and professional care that all the staff put into every detail of our daughter's wedding, both on the day and during the preparations. The whole process, from the moment we booked, to the morning after the wedding was wonderfully orchestrated.

Diane and Philip at the Manor were able to recommend caterers, hairdressers and more and we were very pleased with "Barretts", who did a wonderful job with the catering. Many of the guests who travel world wide and frequently dine at large events, commented that it was amongst the best food they had ever been served. We were thrilled with the standard of "Verity" the Hairdresser who was recommended by Diane and looked after all the girls in our party. She was over in the Thatched Pavilion on the morning of the wedding, doing the hair of the Bride and the Bridesmaids etc.

Thornton Manor is a private and stately home far from the usual standardised experiences we have encountered in hotels. Whilst you won't find a kettle in every bedroom and the bedroom doors don't lock (unless you pay £10 refundable deposit for a key), you will find yourself able to wander inside a beautifully appointed mansion and grounds which would not look out of place in a period drama.

If you are looking for a unique location in which to have a wedding, one that will surpass all of your expectations, then I unreservedly recommend Thornton Manor to you. Philip and Diane and their team will make you feel like family friends. If you want a coffee there is a trolley set up in the French Room downstairs for your convenience, someone will even bring it up to your room if that suits you better. If you want a hair drier you just have to ask and it is provided, just like it would be in a private home. Nothing is too much trouble. For example one of our more mature guests went outside to use her mobile during the evening reception and a member of the Thornton team followed her outside to put a coat round her shoulders to protect her from the cold. Outstanding care and attention.

We all felt very special and thoroughly enjoyed the whole event, which culminated in a fabulous breakfast the morning after the wedding. At the time of booking the additional £15 per person for the breakfast did seem an excessive additional cost, but I am so glad that thirty plus of the guests decided to join the Bride and Groom for this memorable event. The Dining room was beautifully decked out with candelabras and the team made fully use of the wedding flowers to decorate the table beautifully. It really was a lovely finishing note to a wonderful wedding event.

Thank you Thornton Manor.
The proud parents of Sarah Marks - now Mrs Sarah Davison.
