“A Slice of Old English Ambience”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

We visit here frequently; often with friends. The tea-rooms here are an excellent venue for a light lunch, snack, or tea-and-cake-treat! They are light and bright with plenty of windows and a choice of seating is available from conventional dining chairs and tables to more relaxed low seating with coffee tables.
Tea is charming, loose-leaf and served in a double-walled teapot which keeps it nice and hot. We can usually count on at least two cups each from the pot and it is very reasonably priced. Service is not hurried, but the whole atmosphere is leisurely and this is part of the ambience. All food is freshly prepared and beautifully presented. The food choices are not so reasonably priced as the hot drinks but are excellent in quality.Try the Homity pie-an unusual and tasty treat.
I don't think of this as a restaurant, more of an excellent tea-room. Plentiful choice of cakes and light meals with daily specials. On-site in the extensive shop area, a wide choice of foods is available, along with some gift type items and novelties. There are items for the garden, too and plenty of fresh bread, cheeses and cakes, preserves and a small scoop-your-own section.
There is plenty of parking adjoining and the whole place is on ground level which is excellent for anyone who may have mobility issues.
They also run a basic 'loyalty card' scheme.
We love it and visit often.

“Good traditional food and coffee”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

Am frequent visitor (often meeting friends there) but tend to use this more as a coffee shop than a restaurant although they do do full meals. For those of us who like traditional medium roast coffee this is simply the best the Ottery area with even a choice of blends. Yummy selection of home-made cakes and pastries and snacks as well as bigger meals. Recommend their toast which comes with plenty of butter and their own delicious 3 fruit marmalade. Reasonably priced. Service friendly but can be rather slow.
Shop has great selection of farm and deli products plus kitchenware etc but not all prices so reasonable.

“Need to switch-on”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

Three of us visited the centre and stopped off for an early-morning coffee. This was 10.30, so there was not a queue of customers waiting to be served. From placing the order to receiving three drinks took a total of 12 minutes, and that was after one of us had asked what the delay was about. There were three young staff members staring at the coffee machine and none had the ability to apologise for the delay or explain to us if there was a technical problem with the equipment. They were certainly unaware of the need to look at customers' needs/expectations, and goodness knows what they do when they get busy! Otherwise; a pleasant area to sit in.

“Good option for snacks and lunches”

Just down the corner from otter nurseries and a better bet for eating. Lovely nick knack shop with excellent food as well.

The cafe is well organised and does simple but lovely home-cooked food.

Worth a visit

“Surprisingly Good”

Nice spot tucked away in an interesting shop. Good food, quick service and decent atmosphere. Well worth a visit, but leave yourself 20 minutes to browse around the shop.
