“Impressive 'Coach House' restaurant and Activity Park”
Review of Wildwood Escot

Owner description: Escot is known as the Natural Place for good reason. In the 220 acres of parkland, threatened native species such as the iconic red squirrel and the secretive water vole have found sanctuary in surroundings steeped in history and filled with beautiful plants and champion trees. Meet Escot’s family of otters, wild boar and the stunning birds of prey. There’s woodland to explore, wetlands to navigate, a maze to solve and so much more.
Reviewed March 4, 2013

In February on a cold afternoon not surprisingly there were not too many folk around but a couple of young families were enjoying the woodland activities.

We had a light lunch in the superb restaurant. The choice was adequate and included an imaginative range of sandwiches and jackets . Our lunch, with drinks, came to a reasonable £14.50. Great ambiance in the light and airy old Coach House, which includes a soft seating area and there is outside seating and a play area for the summer. Open until 5 p.m. all year.

Then I had a good walk around the gardens and saw otters, wild boar, birds of prey and some peaceful woodland and lake views (pics) and it is a great location for photography if that is one of your interests. I declined to tackle the large maze (pic) but it would be great fun for families in the warmer weather.

As well as lots of other activities for all there is an interesting woodland activity and education area for organised groups with tented accommodation and catering. Check out the website for details presumably. A caravan Certificated Location is also on site (Caravan Club) £5 a night, no hook up.

Free parking and easy disabled access. A pleasant and enjoyable visit.

-VERY ACCESSIBLE FOR ALL AND WELL THOUGHT OUT
-NO SHAMEFUL MONEY GRABBING PLOYS IN SIGHT
-WHOLESOME, QUALITY TIME WITH COMPANIONS
-FRIENDLY STAFF

If you value your leisure time, value your family and value sustainable tourism, this is the place to visit. I've been 4 times in 2012 alone and would have gone again if it weren't for the local floods preventing me from travelling. There always seems to be something new to see and do. Its brilliant value for money, jam packed with quirky and 'different' attractions and draws the attention of it's guests to appreciate the wonders of nature- without being monotonous - which is a rarity these days. Birds of prey displays, otters, a fantastic maze, saxon village, trampoline, indoor soft play, lush gardens, red squirrel enclosure, to literally name but few.

The place never feels crowded, you can spend a whole day, chilled out and exploring with space to breathe- plenty of places to picnic or the restaurant/cafe on site serves really good food at very reasonable prices (no charging £3.50 for a fruit shoot here!!!) with both child AND toddler hot meals and a court yard full of traditional games for the young and young at heart to get involved in.

Ample free parking and a stones throw from Exeter- always leave feeling satisfied and uplifted, we need more places like this- it is clear that the place is very well managed, this is evident in the attitudes of the staff and the values that are apparent to me as the customer- please don't under estimate how much value this adds to the experience.

Only thing I can request - a student concession please Escot!!!!

Otters, squirrels, birds of prey, play barn and good food.....what more could you ask? There's even a death slide for the not-too-faint-hearted. Plenty of under cover spaces should it start to rain - and the season ticket's a real bargain for locals.
