“Fabulous magical place !!”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

We stayed at Cuckoo Down farm at the end of June and had the advantage of doing a weekend in Buttercup Yurt and then a midweek break in the Safari Tent which we nicknamed Edwin ! As soon as we arrived we felt the magic and our stress levels started tumbling down. Our little boy, who is four, loved running around and making friends with other visiting children but we were still all positioned far apart enough to feel like we were on our own when we wanted to.. Everything you need is there from wine bottle openers to spare blankets. Even the "mixed" weather and me coming down with a stinking cold didnt't spoil it one iota as we were lovely and snuggly with our log burner and hot water bottle ! The Yurts are lovely, quirky, pretty and cosy, the safari tent is wonderful too and has much more space if that is what you require although plenty of room in the yurt with a double bed plus two sofa beds ! We had a midninght visitor in the form of a badger sniffling around outside the safari tent. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, we will be back !
PS: Pea Green Boat in Sidmouth, Jack in the Green and the Golden Lion all fantastic places to eat, in fact we didnt have a bad meal the whole holiday, Even the Chinese takeaway in Ottery was gorgeous !!! Also have a reiki session with Kara, magical and sooo relaxing !!

We recently stayed at Cuckoo Down Farm in the yurt called Clover. We are a family of four, our children being three and seven. We all had the best holiday we have had in a long time. Becky is a great host, giving us privacy, but ensuring the children had the opportunity to ride the pony, bottle feed a lamb and feed the chickens. Our kids enjoyed the freedom of running around in the field in which the yurts were situated and also playing in the private woods next to the field. They also liked toasting marshmallows on the fire, and went to bed shattered every night! Us grown ups stayed up watching the fire die down and spotting bats flying about! Whilst there we went to several of the local beaches, we even went mackerel fishing in Exmouth which is only 30 minutes away (we caught loads and cooked it on the fire back at the yurt - it was delicious). We tried a couple of the local pubs and the food was great. All in all it was a great family holiday and we were sad to leave. We will definately be booking again - thanks for a lovely holiday!

We stayed in Bluebell yurt for a mid week break in June. The weather was the only low point of the week, everything to do with the farm was stunning and we enjoyed it. Becky was a great hostess and we really enjoyed meeting all the animals. One of the high points was the degree of privacy you have with each yurt, owing to only 3 yurts and one tent in a large field. The showers were clean. A great week.

This was our first time "camping" with our 2 children aged 8months and 2.5 yrs and we all had a brilliant time. The tent was spotless, well furnished ( v comfy beds!) and in a great location at the top of the field.

Everything was provided from wine glasses, lanterns and matches to light the fire!

The farm is beautifully maintained and Becky and John were fantastic hosts, nothing was too much trouble and they were very welcoming.

Our daughter loved feeding the chickens and collecting freshly laid eggs. Maybe next time she'll have the courage to ride the pony!

Showers clean and compost loo really not a problem!

Cuckoo down farm s very well located with Escot and Bicton Gardens within a few miles, both great days out with the kids if it's not beach weather!

We ate at the pea green boat in sidmouth ( as recommended in the folder provided) and it was great, and v reasonably priced.

All in all a great place to stay and very comfortable tent - and warm with the log burner!

We have just had a fantastic holiday, six adults, five children and a dog all had a brilliant time despite the weather! The yurts are lovely and sweet and very comfortable even with 11 people and a dog inside trying to keep dry.
The children loved exploring the woods and caught a baby trout in the stream, they rode the pony, fed the lamb and collected eggs from the chickens. We took walkie talkies which were great fun when the kids went off exploring in the woods but always felt they were very safe. We collected wood for camp fires and had bbq's.
Kitchen is very well equipped and the compost loo isn't as bad as I thought! (we agree with the toilet in the shower block.)
Becky, John and Will were very welcoming and helpful, will definitely return.

Hello!

Thanks very much for the lovely review, we really appreciate you taking the time. Boy we have had challenging weather this spring/summer but really lovely guests. We are so glad we put in the raised wooden floors in the yurts this year, they have kept everything good and dry for everyone.
We are thinking hard about putting a toilet in or near the shower block. John says it is not the most simple plumbing prospect to say the least but we think it is do-able and hopefully will be sorted out before too long. We are also getting some hot water bottles, though it has stopped raining now, honest!

Best wishes,

Becky John and the kids

We stayed in the new safari tent with three children and a dog, and had a fantastic time. The severe weather warning cut our holiday short by a day, but we still enjoyed it immensely!
The beds were super comfy, the kids ran around the fields until they tired themselves out, and we enjoyed the setting sun (when it emerged) with a glass of wine on the terrace - perfect.
The kids loved their pony ride, and it was great that we could let our dog off the lead - he had a really good holiday too.
I would add to what someone else has said here, and suggest that a loo in the shower block would be the icing on the cake.
All in all, a very successful first foray into the world of camping - we're looking forward to coming back next year already! Thank you Becky and John for creating such a lovely peaceful haven.

We took our three boys for their first trip to a yurt. We all had so much fun and packed a lot in to the long weekend. The boys loved having the freedom to run around in the large field and wood, collect wood to make a camp fire, go on a pony ride, feed the chickens and stroke the little lamb. We liked the fact that it is unspoilt, quiet and safe and the yurts aren't squashed together.

We were a bit chilly a night but once we realised we had to keep stoking the woodburner we were fine. Next time we'll bring hot water bottles!

I arranged to visit the brilliant Reiki therapist who lived just up the road and spent a very relaxing hour being healed, soothed and energised.

We also visited the excelled Escot house and gardens where we saw everything from otters to owls, climbed trees, overcame fears and did the huge drop slide and generally had a great day out.

The Golden Lion at Tipton St George was the setting for a birthday lunch and the food was delicious and service couldn't be faulted.

All round we had a brilliant weekend and cannot wait to come back again for more fun, reiki and possibly some fishing.
