“Excellent afternoon outing”
Reviewed January 17, 2014

Being collected in Kemton, with secure parking, then cruised up the river with an experienced Game Ranger was the first of many pleasant experiences.
Drinks before a fantastic lunch on the banks of the Kariega river followed by an extensive game drive, with Rhino, zebra, cheetah as well as lion been some of the more. Otable animals to see.
The afternoon ends with a quiet trip back down the river. Some sundowners would have added a bit!!

Hi Alan G
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to fill in the Review Form. We truly appreciate it when our guests do this, as it enables us to keep an eye on potential problem areas and reassures us that people are having a great time! Your words of praise will make hearts happy... I will pass on to all concerned! Sorry to hear about the lack of "sundowners" though... your cooler box should have accompanied you on the return trip..... Apologies for that! But glad you still enjoyed the tranquillity. We look forward to welcoming you again!

We had a wonderful stay in Sibuya, even though the weather was not perfect. It was a great experience to see the animals so close, to sleep in nature and not to be in a crowded park where there are many game drives at the same time.

The rangers were really nice and funny. Two nights are probably perfect and bring some warm and comfy clothes.

Thank you Sibuya-team!

My family (wife and two 5 and 9 year old kids) recently went on Sibuya's cruise, game drive and lunch excursion whilst staying in Kenton-on-Sea. We called two days before to make the booking. Arrived at their reception at 8:30am and fortunately all of our group made it on time for the 9:00am river cruise departure from the jetty on the Kariega river. We had a great warm and sunny day throughout the trip. Our ranger Sean was very knowledgable on the vegetation and bird life during the leisurely river cruise and similarly during the game drive. We were lucky to be on our own game drive vehicle which meant we had control of timing and routes. Right off we saw a just born impala baby followed by a family of rhinos including a young one just a couple of months old. They came quite close to our vehicle but we knew to remain quiet so felt safe. There were hundreds of antelopes (impala, Nyala and kudus) visible close up. We also came across about a dozen elephants including some young ones bathing and playing at a dam. It was a very unique experience to see the amount of interaction the elephants had with each other. We also saw several buffalo, although we missed out on cheetah and lion sightings. After the almost 3 hour game drive, we had a great lunch at the Forest Camp. The staff had catered for my wheat free diet by making some special delicious items including quiche. Sean showed us the luxury tents at the camp which seemed very attractive for our next trip to the Eastern Cape. Overall a very worthwhile day trip whilst in Kenton.

Myself and my 2 friends from school were on a road trip passing through Kenton on Sea and the tour was fully booked for that day but yet they put another drive out for us. This we appreciate as we got to see the beautiful game reserve and river. Sean our guide, who I am sure will remember us was an excellent guide. He taught us stuff we never knew and he put up with us overgrown teenagers. The food was to die for and that chilli chocolate brownie was delish!!! I took the day off and had a drink and enjoyed the alcohol on tap which was included in the day price. We even got to experience the dangers of the Rhino as we had to rescue the other drive from a ditch. That was excitement in itself. The elephants did not come out to play that day but we seen the rest and spectacular it was. I will certainly recommend this to anyone I know that will be passing that way.

Room Tip: Ask for Sean.

We stayed two nights at Sibuya Forest Camp and had a really great time there. Only about 20 guests can stay there at any time which gives it a very family-like athmosphere. The food and the (open) bar was really good and so were the Game drives. Our ranger Bryan showed us the best of his home-country and we nearly saw all of the big fives (@Bryan: we bought "The elephant whisperer" - really a good book to read!).
Thank you for this perfect start into our vacation in South Africa!

My overall and lasting impression of this beautiful lodge is one of serenity, nature at its very best and a bird lovers paradise. The vegetation and terrain of the adjoining reserve makes Sibuya very special. The Kariega river winds its way from Kenton-on-Sea to the Lodge and the quiet beauty of being navigated on the river at dusk is an unforgettable experience.

Both River and Forest Camps are furnished in a way that blends in with nature with much locally sourced wood being used in their structures. The camps are completely off-grid, generating power through solar energy with generator back-ups.

Concerted efforts are being made to conserve nature. It is the stunning biodiversity of vegetation that appealed to me, from Albany thicket to Forest Biome and Fynbos. The thickets contain many endemic plants, in particular the succulent Euphorbia and are dense. The plains, river and mountain valleys and ruggedness of terrain distinguishes this Reserve from many others.

The bird life we saw was stunning in variety and beauty and our Guides, Chris and Werner, spotted the very rare Narina Trogon and we feasted our eyes on watching these birds and others fly between the bushes and trees.

Game life is abundant and Sibuya participates in a Cheetah conservation program.

An experience to remember forever.....

Room Tip: Chalets and reception/dining areas at both camps are lovely. I stayed at Forest Camp where the te...
