Mt Tamborine Motel
Reviewed June 20, 2010

We had a large family and friends group which occupied about 50% of the hotel for one night. The rooms were very clean, the beds had nice linen and were comfortable. Whilst the hotel is quite basic it was more than acceptable for than the night and one of the few hotels at Mt Tamborine that would happily accept a booking for just one night. The gardens were lovely and the views from the rooms are fantastic. The bathrooms were very clean and there was plenty of hot water. It is most unfortunate that the lady in reception was so nasty and unwelcoming, we really felt as if we had inconvenienced her by staying at the hotel. Even when I made an inquiry the next day I was met with a very terse unfriendly voice at the other end of the phone. I felt this really let the hotel down and I would suggest if anyone would like to make a booking they speak to the gentleman in the office, he is much nicer, if they could address that one issue I think it could be quite a good place o stay.

Stayed for 2 nights at Mt Tamborine Motel as part of a group attending a wedding. The photo on the website is rather misleading as the place seriously needs a paint job and we were a little concerned on arrival at what the rooms would be like. We were surprised when we checked in (two solo friends both attending the wedding sharing a room for economy of costs) to be charged extra because we were not a couple and were using 2 beds. After getting over this we found the room was quite spacious and well-equipped with a nice view from the balcony.

Our next nasty surprise came soon after and continued throughout our stay, all night, all day...because they have peacocks there and for those of you who don't know, peacocks scream VERY loudly and these ones kept waking us at all hours. They are beautiful birds but not in a sleeping location.

Next day we left our room around 10am for several hours, then again at 3pm until late that night. Even though there was plenty of opportunity our room was not serviced. When we asked about this on checking out we were told it was because of the water shortage. While the water shortage issue was serious at the time of our stay - water certainly does not stop them from making the beds up, tidying, vacuuming and topping up the tea and coffee supplies. I could understand the bathroom not being cleaned or towels changed but not a complete lack of any servicing. The staff made no apology for our room being missed other than the water shortage excuse.

The issue of the noise of the peacocks was passed off as "mating season" and nothing they could do about it. Well (a) they shouldn't have peacocks around in a place where guests are trying to sleep and (b) peacocks scream like this ALL the time so they are obviously well aware of the issue and should do something about it rather than invent a phoney excuse to placate people after they already have their money.

Overall the location was convenient for our purposes and the room was nice enough, but the service (or lack of it) and noise meant it was not a pleasant stay and poor on the value for money scale. For what you get this place is overpriced in the local market.
