stayed one night in the riverside annex - room pleasant with all mod cons. Peaceful except for the noise of people walking in the room above. Dinner was excellent. Service was friendly but one or two slight hiccups - delay in the wite wine arriving, only one set of wine glasses when we were having red and white wine, only decaf coffee in the room.
Hotel grounds good for walking, plenty of space in the public rooms, breakfast excellent.
couple of suggestions - a map of the grounds would be handy, and orange juice on the buffet table would be good.
would definately go bacl.

Hotel a typical old Scottish lodge set in beautiful grounds for great riverside walks.
Perhaps past first flush of youth however, but we stayed in more modern annexe where we found the rooms to be very well appointed and comfortable, with a balcony looking on to the River Tay.
We dined in the Hotel on first night and the food was excellent, and the staff thoughout were all very open and friendly, and could not do enough for you.
If we had to find any fault, I would question the value over several other similar venues in Uk , and this will probably be the reason why we may not revisit in the near future.
That said, still very enjoyable.

We stayed for one night in the annex, about 200 meters from the main hotel.

The setting is wonderful, right on the river.

The first thing that strikes you in the room is the rather cheap pine furniture and plastic and linoleum bathroom, and you wonder whether this is worth the £160 price tag. Then you begin to appreciate the size of the room, the lovely view, the very comfortable bed, the quiet, the powerful shower (though it would be nice if you could orient it!).

Breakfast consists of a relatively small cold buffet selection (patisserie, cereals, juices, fruit), while you order hot drinks and food at your table. Everything was of good quality and service was prompt and polite. The dining room itself is lovely. Even though we didn't have dinner (we are very fussy eaters, aka 'foodies' so we preferred to go to a nearby restaurant we like) we somehow got the feeling from the professional way breakfast was organised and from the quality of the produce that it may be worth a try!

The receptionist was very polite too. All in all a good experience.

Just went for dinner. Lovely place. Great food and good wine list. Very friendly, professional attentive service. But £6 for a glass of fizzy water and £12 for one glass of average house chenin blanc?! Maybe, maybe in a Michelin stat London restaurant but left a bitter taste here.

Dear DuncsScotland,

Your review on a recent dinner experience in our restaurant is most grateful and I note that you enjoyed the food and service received, which is what our team at the hotel aims to provide for all of our guests.

You mention the price of drinks, which has caused concern in that there may have been an error within your invoice as our current charges are £1.50 per glass of sparkling water and £5.95 for a glass of Chenin Blanc.

We ask that you please contact us with details of the evening that you dined so that we can reimburse you for this oversight.

I do hope that we can welcome you back to Ballathie in the near future.

Kind regards

Beautiful hotel in magnificent grounds ,friendly attentive staff and first rate food. The evening
meal was well thought out ,with good choice , excellent ingredients and quality wines.
Breakfast was imaginative with a wide selection of Scottish dishes. The Riverside rooms ,overlooking the River Tay were up to scratch.

We stayed here because pets are welcome. Makes a huge difference when you have a dog as so many places don't welcome pets. We requested a ground floor room in the Riverside building, which we were given - a few minutes walk from the main hotel. A door led out directly to a small patio area which was perfect for letting our wee dog in and out. Small table and chairs outside with lovely views to the river and fields beyond. Inside the room it was just a tad dated, but there were two comfortable armchairs and a small table by the window; much better than having to sit on the bed all the time. Coffee, tea and shortbread available in the room and supplies were replenished during the evening. It was very peaceful, quiet and tranquil which was great; either the walls were well insulated or our neighbours were very quiet! No doors banging, no loud TV, no voices echoing down the corridors, just peace and quiet. Breakfast the following morning was good, not as much choice as I had hoped, but nice all the same. All the staff were very friendly. There are some good walks around the grounds of the hotel which was perfect for our dog. Would certainly go back.
