We stayed at the Duck on the third night of our Peddars Way Walk. We had pre-booked a DBB double room inc pet for £100. Arrived Sun afternoon at 5 and received warm welcome. Room was excellent-tastefully decorated with great bathroom and brilliant shower. We ate at 7.30 and had excellent 3 course meal. No faults whatsoever. Breakfast was excellent in both quality and service. We would thoroughly recommend this lovely pub .

We visited the Dabbling Duck for a family birthday meal.

The pub is located in a lovely old village centre with real character; the village is worth a look even if you just passing through.

The pub itself is pleasantly decorated with a nice log fire but is primarily aimed at people dining rather than just going into a village pub for a drink.

Of the starters on the menu was 'a breast of pigeon with black pudding'. At best there were two small slices of pigeon; no way would this constitute what the menu said. That being said, the Brancaster mussels starter was excellent with almost as many mussels as you could expect with a main course. The soup of the day was a tomato and pesto soup which tasted good.

So the main courses....

The fish and chips were very good; very fresh fish good and fluffy chips; only problem being that you only needed two hands to count how many chips were on the plate. The pie of the day isn't actually a pie as you would expect but actually a slice from a larger pie (so you can make one large pie and reheat later or during service?). The vegetarian option of parsnip sausage and toad in the hole was well received as was the rump burger. So good and not so good.

Of the deserts we tried the creme brulee with banana bread was very good as was the ice cream

So in general the food is good but could be better in some places and I expected much more generous helpings.

For most of us who had three courses the bill worked out to £20 per person (excluding tip and drinks) which is good in these times.

If the dabbling duck was more generous with it's portions i would consider visiting again as what is good on the menu really is good.

After passing through Great Massingham on numerious occasions in the past two years, we decided to stay at the Dabbling Duck for 3 days 16th-19th of February 2013, we were not disapointed, although we only had a meal here for 1 night it was cooked to the highest standard and could not be faulted, well presented and cooked to perfection, the rooms were clean and well appointed and service was excellent, the staff are very couteous and most welcoming, most pleasing are the selection of local ales available.

Have eaten here before and had Sunday lunch here today in a party of 12. I know we weren't booked till 2pm but there was only lamb available by then so had to settle for that. Food lukewarm, very small portion of meat which was quite fatty, roast potatoes that has obviously been cooked and kept warm as they were hard as bullets, plate swimming in gravy (strange gravy, rather some kind of heavily seasoned sauce?). My fault, I should have asked for the gravy to be served in a jug but couldn't really excuse the rest. The food that had been fresh cooked, fish and chips etc, were fine but expected better for a standard Sunday lunch. We were offered mint sauce but it didn't arrive till food was half finished. I was rather disappointed and if we ever go back I will make sure to order something that has to be fresh cooked.

A recent visit following a major recommendation in a national newspaper we were expecting a good meal. However after ordering pre-starter bread and oil, it arrived at the same time as our starter. My main course of plaice was luke warm at best, bordering on cold and the apology given was the same. The waiter explained that the chef did not know why the plates were cold. Surely for food to be brought to the table hot, then plates should be similarly so before plating up. No proper apology was given apart from the young waiter who attended our table and the bill was paid in full. We eat out every weekend in the locality and considering this was our first visit, we shall not be returning.

A wonderfully relaxing Winter weekend spent at the Dabbling Duck, Great Massingham, Norfolk in its quintessentially English village green setting opposite the parish church. The warmest of welcomes, very well kept real ales, wonderful food and logburning stoves to relax and warm by with quality newspapers provided. Chillaxing par excellance!

We have just had a family Wedding Anniversary dinner for 20x people here in the Blenheim Room at the back.
I have to say the whole experience was exceptionally good.
The food was superb and very tasty, quite upmarket I would say. The staff were very accommodating, friendly and efficient.
I would thoroughly recommend for a Sunday Lunch. It was very good value too.
If you wanted to stay somewhere in a lovely unspoilt village, but well located, I don't think you could do much better than this.
We will definitely be back.
Keep Dabbling!
