I ordered the sea bass, which without question rates as one of the finest meals I've ever enjoyed. My wife had an outstanding burger. Add to that friendly service and a casual, comfortable pub environment and our visit to the Dabbling Duck was a terrific pleasure in every regard. We look forward to returning within a month. (If we lived closer, it would be sooner.)

This is not an easy place to pigeon hole. OK, it's a pub that does food BUT it is more than that. If you can understand that this is a community pub which is run "communally" for the village, that is the starting point.
The beers are all served perfectly - the CAMRA bods must love this place! Look for the local "Worth the Wait". Worth the journey!
The food is definitely worth looking at in some detail. I cannot believe that I would suggest that you have the local "Chicken in a basket. " ( a pickled egg and crisps!!) The pickled eggs are (amongst others) tea flavoured, with soft yolks - magic!
The menu of other bar/restaurant food is interesting compared to normal pub grub. The star is surely their chips which live up to their billing - triple cooked with a perfect crispy exterior, soft fluffy inside with a slight and proper taste of real beef dripping. Crackerjack!!
Portions of all dishes are slightly on the "nouvelle" side. However, the locally sourced produce and flavour combinations are well executed. Expect to have 3 courses to fill the spaces! The menu changes monthly, but a visit to their website will give a very good indication of the variety of the bill of fare. The steak in the burger was moist, tasty and cooked to order.
This is not Michelin starred cuisine but the food is a distinct cut above the average. The kitchen are most certainly well trained and all staff are very professional and friendly.
This is not a formal establishment in any sense but offers a relaxed pubby atmosphere and if you have a dog or are part of the hunting/shooting fraternity, you will feel right at home.
The 3 stars are only awarded because tripadvisor do not differentiate between pubs and restaurants. Pub wise it is definitely 4 star.

Came here for New Year's Day lunch with family. Lovely surroundings in idyllic village. Food was very good especially the roast beef served with a nice selection of veg- turnips, red cabbage etc in rich, tasty sauce. Good selections of desserts with a twist- the carrot cake arctic role was particularly good. Only gripe was the service time we waited a long time to be served between courses however this was to be expected as it was very busy.

New Year's Day lunch after a short wet walk hit the spot. Red mullet scotch egg and then perfect thick slices of roast beef with excellently cooked veg and roast potatoes to die for. Great value and charming service.
