“No Christmas Cheer”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

Last year we had work Christmas meal here and it was second to none. This year however the entire meal was a disapointment. The menu in no way reflects the food you get.Large plates with meagre tasteless portions. The Christmas turkey dinner was a large mound in the middle of the dish which when dismantled revealed over sweet over cooked vegetables topped with Turkey slices all served Luke warm and totally tasteless.Pudding was cold whether it christmas pudding or the ginger crumb I had the misfortune to order. The cheese and biscuits had neither cheese or biscuits upon the plate.Perhaps the Chef should stop shaping everything into a quenelle and concentrate on taste.Service however was excellent.

“mixed feelings”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

Stayed here for 2 nights when we went to Houghon exhibition. Wonderfully friendly and very efficient management. Rooms were very stylish and very comfortable. Great decor everywhere in the building in a lovely simple way . I just loved the great selection of books everywhere . But the food was a bit of a disappointment. Service was excellent and very efficient.
Coffe at breakfast was poor.

“Has there been a change of chef?”
Reviewed December 4, 2013

We were here for a meal end of june 2013 the service and food really was second to none, however when we came here sunday 1st Dec as a party of 4, the same could not be said we found the gnochi was very tasty however I believe I have seen a larger amount served as a starter. The Fish and chips were ok (at a push) but certainly not briliant. The burger was cold and uncooked in the centre, in fairness the waiter delt with this complaint very well the food was taken away and returned looking perfect after it had been reheated and and put on a clean plate with a fresh bread roll and fresh chips (a lot of places would have just pinged the lot in a microwave) I must say the burger was still far from hot., I ate it but really did not enjoy it...
2 in our party had a sweet, the crumble was good, the hot chocolate cake was in my wifes opinion quite poor and the malted ice cream not to her taste. All in all a lovely pub, perfect waiters, just a shame the food was not a patch on what we were served on our June visit. Will we return? Probably not.

“Great Night Out”
Reviewed December 3, 2013

Well Done Dabbling Duck. !!

We travelled 30 miles to the Dabbling Duck, having found the website on the internet. We were not disappointed at all, and the trip was well worth it.

The food was interesting, OK it was upper class versions of old favourites........ You could describe my meal as "Burger and Chips"............. but that would be very unkind, and not do my meal justice. What I got was a beautifully cooked steak & marrowbone thick patty, which had been stuffed with melted cheese and cooked to perfection............. brilliant! Others in our party thoroughly enjoyed their ham dish as well.

The service was great all evening, despite the restaurant filling up throughout the evening.......... obviously other people know when they are on to a good thing!!

The menu changes monthly.............. we will be back to sample more

“Good atmosphere with good service and nice food.”

Good value with good menu choices and pleasant atmosphere. Service was very good and we enjoyed all our meals. Stayed late waiting for taxi but they were really friendly and we did not feel kicked out or bothered at the end of the evening.
