“Fantastic food, friendly staff”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

Overnight stay in this country pub with excellent walking in the local area. On arrival the staff were welcoming and very pleasant and the room was ready so we were able to check in early. We stayed in room 1 and paid extra for a jacuzzi bath. Unfortunately there was nothing to indicate in the room info or anywhere in the room that there was a switch outside the bathroom and consequently we assumed the jacuzzi was not working - disappointing after a long walk with tired muscles. The wi fi signal was poor in the room, but fine in the bar. The room was clean and comfortable and nicely decorated.

We had booked dinner in the grill room which was not as busy as the bar area and although the service was a little slow, the chateaubriand was worth the wait and every penny. Beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. After complaining about the Jacuzzi, we were offered a complimentary liqueur from the extensive range provided. This is a must for liqueur and cognac lovers. We retired to the bar area which had a pleasant atmosphere and was comfortable.

Breakfast was a little let down by the service. Although there were only 3 couples being served at the time, after quite a wait, we had to ask for coffee and toast rather than it being offered which is the norm on being seated in most hotels. There was no menu to indicate what could be ordered for breakfast so again after asking, my hubby ordered the full English which arrived without the promised black pudding.

This was a very pleasant stay, with excellent food and lovely helpful staff, let down by little things that could easily be remedied. Would definitely return and hopefully a few minor tweaks will make this an excellent choice for a weekend break.

Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your stay and what we could have done to make it better. We have now put notices up in both rooms with a jacuzzi to indicate how to operate it. We have extended our wifi range so it works better in the bedrooms and we are in the process of updating our procedures for breakfast so again thank you for bringing these matters to our attention. I hope next time you stay with us you will find everything as you would wish it to be.

It was a last minute decision to walk in the Yorkshire Dales that led to us booking just one night at this lovely country pub/hotel. We arrived late afternoon and were shown to our comfortable and stylish room. After a luxurious soak in the jacuzzi bath we went down to the restaurant for dinner. The scallop starter was absolutely delicious as was the sea bass main course. Both were beautifully cooked and presented. The full breakfast next morning set us up for the day's walk around Malham Cove which was very wet and left us wishing we were returning to this cosy hotel rather than having to drive home!

I am so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and that you particularly enjoyed the scallops and sea-bass - tow of our regulars favourites. It's good to hear from people who have enjoyed their visit even if it did rain in Malham. One of the hazards of living in the dales I'm afraid. We hope to see you again soon.

The Devonshire is a traditional pub/hotel with all of the benefits of both.

Great accommodation and fantastic food and beer choice.

The restaurant menu is first class

Stayed for a one night business break but will certainly be coming back with my wife for a weekend stay

Booked for Sunday lunch having heard good reviews from friends. The pub is warm and welcoming, with the restaurant/grill room very homely.
We both had the cauliflower soup, which was delicious. Followed by beef for myself and pork for Jane, both was served on mash, with large Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Veg came separate and was plentiful. All round the food was excellent. Accompanied with some choice South African wines, we thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.
Will be back again soon.

Me and my husband booked the Devenshire Arms as the second night of our two night break the first a birthday treat in a castle just down the road. I have to say the Devenshire Arms was by far the better of the two. We were warmly greeted and informed that night there would be The annual cricket club dinner and they were expecting to be very busy. We had our evening meal and even though they were feeding another 60 guest this made no difference at all the steak was one of the best I have tasted and I would recommend to anyone as was the scampi. The manager and the staff are very friendly and looked after us throughout the evening making time to come over and chat, the rooms are very nice and comfy. All in all I would highly reccomond a stay here and we hope to return later in the year. We would like to say Thanks to everyone there.

Thank you so much for your kind review. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and that the large party we had that night didn't affect the quality of our food and service - both of which we pride ourselves in. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

my husband booked this pub for my birthday, was looking for a good old fashioned pub with a log fire, good atmosphere and good food.. and that's exactly what we got... Barbara was great, she totally looked after us, we stayed in room 1 for the first night, but when the kitchen got going you certainly knew about it, the smell of the kitchen wasn't the best but bearable, we asked to change rooms and David moved us straight away to room 4 which was much more comfortable, On Saturday we got a bus straight outside the pub into skipton which was a lovely day, The staff are so friendly, will do anything to please, Now for the food, 5 stars to the chef, lovely home cooked tasty food, presentation and taste was fantastic (thank You Chef). and for the breakfast again lovely. so all in all if you want to go somewhere to relax for the weekend or even for a night, with good food, atmosphere and relaxation, this is the place to be.

Room Tip: room 4 was comfortable
