“Lovely”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2014

Stayed at Kirkstile after reading reviews on trip advisor. Not disappointed. clean room with magnificent view. Really excellent food _ recommend the locally produced smoked trout starter. Spent very wet afternoon by the fire in the bar. Bar lady very friendly and helpful. It is clear that they are always very busy and it was a shame that the man who showed us our room on Friday night did not take the time to mention that we could book a pack lunch for the next day and have fresh milk- however we were late in arriving and they put table time back for us ,. Would recommend eating in the bar rather than the restaurant as it was a bit too intimate and stuffy. The new terrace is lovely. Definitely stay again.

I have frequented the Kirkstile for over 10 years & have never been disappointed. From a coffee & sandwich after a good walk, drying off by the fire. To a booked birthday lunch with family. To an evening meal outside in the sun (yes we get sun up here) I have never been disappointed. Last night I enjoyed the belly pork, with a mustard mash, lovely bit of crackling, black pudding balls & seasonal vegs beautifully presented & very tasty. Their own beer is well worth try. Disabled parking is available with access into the Inn through the front door & around the side into the garden. Also accessible toilet. Can be a bit tight for a wheelchair inside, but I promise you it can be done. The live music nights are worth a go too. Facilities clean & staff knowledgeable & friendly. Have never stayed there, as I live locally so sorry can't comment.

We dined here one evening on a recommendation. It has great atmosphere and great food....oh and great beer too! We bought some of the latter as a takeaway also. One of the best pubs in Lakeland. We recommend the shoulder of lamb, also the belly pork. And a pint of Loweswater Gold :)

The most idyllic setting you could imagine with stunning views. You simply relax when you start to approach it down the winding roads..We stayed in the premier rooms (No 9 and 4) which were fantastic - clean, in character with the hotel and modern facilities and stunning views. You are welcomed by friendly staff and given a welcome drink on arrival.

The place has so much character, whether in the old part of bar, restaurant or even sat in the beer garden overlooking the stream and fields.

If you are staying there, they reserve you a table in the bar / restaurant and the food is amazing - great value for money and big portions. Amazing breakfast and all made to order.

All staff can not do enough to help.
You can leave the car, and walk to the Loweswater lake or i believe Kummerquarter (sure spelt wrong), and it's just uncommercial and unspoilt. We only took the car to go to Ennerdale water and you don't need to use it again - as it has everything on the doorstep (except a local supermarket!)

Spending two days here is like a week's holiday. Definitely return again - thank you

Room Tip: Premier room with four poster bed - beautiful room and window views

After a long day on the hills a group of us had a wonderful dinner washed down with their very own beers. I had the scotch egg followed by the desperate ran meat pie both of which were excellent. The range of home brewed beers is very good and you really must have a pint of each :)

Came here after a walk around Loweswater, too late for lunch sadly but had grilled cheese on toast with a tasty tomato chutney. Good selection of ales. Service was good on what was a busy late lunchtime. Lovely to be able to sit in the garden and enjoy the fab view on a warm sunny day.
