“What a wonderful service from a very special place”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

A very special hotel steeped in history set in beautiful surroundings. Nothing was too much trouble as we were made feel very welcome. Although a top class venue the mood was still relaxed and the added benefit of a treatment room meant that we could enjoy a relaxing facial during our stay. The restaurant produced gorgeous food with lovely service. If you want a getaway, somewhere special where you can be spoilt then thus is the place for you!

Went here for a birthday treat with my partner. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and is indeed a beautiful building. There was a wedding in progress when we arrived, which was not really a problem for us, although there was only one very busy bar which the wedding party were using and we did note there was a smaller bar in one of the lounges, this was not open and we did feel like we intruding in the wedding party.

We dined in the restaurant both for evening meal and breakfast and both the food and service were excellent.

We stayed in the jasmine four poster suite room which was a very large, but the furniture looked tired and stained in places. There was a hair grip on the bathroom floor, one of the white robes had make-up on and one of the packets of biscuits was an empty wrapper, so attention to detail was slightly lacking. Also hotel seemed too hot for our liking.

We enjoyed our stay, but think this hotel is geared more towards weddings.

Attended a wedding here early March '13 , our room was made available to us as soon as we arrived mid morning so that we could dress for the wedding .
Whole event was excellent from start to finish , the surroundings , the food and the drinks .
They could not control the weather and it is a little strange going outside to enter the restaurant when it is pouring down !
Staff were excellent and it was not a problem that the wedding continued into the early hours ( and then some ! ) . A hidden treasure in Yorkshire !
Our room was in the library wing which was very modern with a huge bathroom however my son and his partner had a free upgrade to a suite which was enormous .
Will try and fit in a break here again soon.

Our family gave us a two day break at the castle as a Christmas present.Couldnt fault the stay if I tried. Staff fantastic food excellent. The room was a suite, bedroom, living room and a huge bathroom. If you go ask for a tour, puts the place into context well done and thank you too. All the staff

I've just got back from a night at Hazelwood Castle and this, as always, is my objective and honest review.

On arrival we parked in the courtyard and made our way to reception, we were greeted with a very pleasant young lady and checked in without any bother at all. A great start!!

We nade our way up, the many, stairs to our room (Crocus) the stairs were a killer but a fitter younger person would cope with no problem! The room was very cosy with a big bathroom, it was cold in there (but this is a castle and they're cold right?) after 5 mins with the heater on it was lovely. We had a great view of the courtyard and the grounds beyond, even on a wet miserable day the place was beautiful. I would love to come here in the summer, I can only imagine just how beautiful this place would be.

we had all the usual amenities. Iron, ironing board, kettle and tray of tea bags, coffee etc, hair dyer and telly (the telly was very very small and even on full volume I couldnt hear it from the bed, but if this is the worst I can say about the room then thats not at all bad!!!) I have to mention the Tea Bags, Oh my days!!! The best brew I've ever had I'm googling to try and find them online to buy some. The hospitality tray is full of quality stuff, not cheap tacky stuff in sachets that you normally get. This is typical of the Hotel, they get the small details right and everything falls into place and helps to make this place such a lovely place to stay.

We had a few beers in the bar, again service was great. The staff all seem genuinely nice and nothing is too much trouble for them. (they dont wear ridiculous medieval costumes like some similar hotels dress their staff in either!!) Then we went to the Restaurant, its a beautiful restaurant the ambience is just perfect in there. We were met and served by a chap called Saj, very friendly and well informed, again, nothing was too much trouble and he made our experience a memorable one there. The restaurant is reasonably priced for what you get. This is a fine dining restaurant and the food is freshly cooked and excellent quality, average prices reflect this. Starters £6-13, main courses £20-30 and deserts around £6. I had rack of lamb and it was just beautiful, melted in the mouth and cooked just right. My partner ( a fussy eater) had fish and chips from the bar menu and that too was lovely and well priced at £15. Unless you drive anywhere then you have to eat here as there is nothing close to the hotel but I would happily recommend that you do. The food was amazing. Breakfast was also presented well with fresh ingredients and quality too.

To summarise, I would love to come back here and stay but in summer. The outstanding feature of Hazlewood, for me, is the staff and their attitude. Always smiling always happy to help and they really do make your stay here memorable for the right reasons. All I can moan (not really a moan!) about was the telly but you really shouldnt be too hung up on that as there are some beautiful grounds to explore instead of hiding in your room with the telly!! So, a lovely hotel in lovely grounds with great food and service, thats everything you need for a great hotel and I think this place is just that!!! I will definately be staying here again.

8 of us stayed overnight at Hazlewood Castle for my 50th birthday. Everything was lovely, friendly staff, comfortable rooms (we stayed in the new rooms), and fabulous food. I would like to thank the Manager and the staff for making my celebration so special.

What a good place to stop for a night! We booked a package including evening meal, bed and breakfast, which was a little pricey we thought, until we arrived. The atmosphere was terrific, the ambiance (posh word that) perfect. From the pre-meal drinks in the library to the time we left after breakfast the next morning, the service from the staff couldn't have been better. The meal in the dining room was simply world class. The starter I had was duck egg deep fried in golden crumbs with asparagus coated in fried cauliflower cheese, that has me salivating as I think about it. The other courses, the wine and the helpful service from the staff were above average and deserve praise. Well worth a detour for.
