“Fantastic Food, Friendly Service”
Reviewed September 2, 2013 via mobile

What a great wee cafe this is. The counter food makes your mouth water the minute you walk in and tastes as good as it looks. Huge date and savoury scones, brownies and a variety of other cakes and biscuits to choose from. Cooked food available as well that tastes great and generous portion sizes. Tried a variety of food on offer over the week there and wasn't disappointed once. Coffee is good too.

The service is genuine small town, friendly and welcoming. It may take a while for the food to arrive if they're busy but kick back and enjoy the warm fire and comfortable surroundings, you're not on big city time now.

A great find in this small town. Well worth a stop.

“Great food, and great location”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

The food was awesome, well at least my pancakes were, and the berry smoothie I had was the best I have had in years. One of our group had the soup and said it was a bit bland, but other than that the group was more than happy with their food. They have a great wee room for the kids to play and read, which was appreciated. Also several soft couches and chairs (great for breastfeeding!) The service was pretty good, but the coffee that was supposed to arrive before the meal turned up after, and the second coffee had to be asked about. But all in all a great wee lunch stop. Will happily return, especially with the kids.

“Warm, welcoming and delicious”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

Our group was really impressed with Black Forest Cafe, and not just because of the great coffee.
Counter-top cakes and scones were old school, home-made and absolutely delicious. (Go the savory scones!)
There was an excellent selection of loose leaf teas available; plenty of comfortable seating; a toasty big log-burner; lots of hand-made crafts and genuine southern hospitality and service.
The lady who runs it does so on her own most of the year, so don't rock in with an order for 10 coffees to go and expect to walk out 5 minutes later.
Instead, take the opportunity to chill out and maybe have a browse through the little shop next door while you're waiting (the lady in the cafe will give you a key). Enjoy!
