Our charming premises date back to the early 19th century and many of the original features remain, culminating in a rustic and traditional dining setting. Coupled with our enthusiastic and motivated team we hope to provide an experience not to be forgotten.

“Pleasant sunday lunch-at a price”
Reviewed December 22, 2012

We had Sunday lunch here. The food was good ,particularly the beef and pheasant breast ,however it was expensive for what was on offer. The service was OK if you like being referred to as "hi guys!"every time your waitress comes. We are obviously from a different era which expects rather more respect but we are used to that almost everywhere.
The wine was another story ,almost £15 for a bottle of really poor Chilean Red rubbish was way over the top.We took some of the bottle home and drank it with sandwiches in the evening alongside a very basic Aldi wine. The Aldi wine won hands down.A new wine merchant is needed and they could do much worse than use ALDI.
One further point. We are not keen on places that use old tables that are only fit for firewood,I suppose that is fashion these days but not one to our taste especially when you are being charged high prices.

“Food Nice, but poor and slow service”
Reviewed December 20, 2012

I visit this restaruant at the begining of December. As we walked in we waited over 5 minutes at the bar even to be greeted. When we were shown through to our table, the waitress put down the menus without even offering drinks. The young man waiting on the came over about 10 minutes later to ask if we wanted to order any drinks - which when they cam were incorrect and the drinks we just put down randomly instead of the waitress asking who had ordered what beverage. At this point our order was taken - the menu was a nice varied bar food menu. We all ordered starters which we ordered 10 minutes before another table were seated next to us. The waiter came and took their order and served their starters, cleared them and served their main course before our starters appeared. The food was nice, nothing outstanding considering the standard of some restaurants in the area such as the boot, Willington Hall or the Swan whos service and food stand far outshine that which we recieved at the Gunnery. We sat with empty starter plater for 15 minutes before being cleared and 20 minutes later the main course appeared. in all rather a disappointment which would of been more understood if the restaruant had been busy - which is was not. I think even if the serving staff had smiled or been welcoming it would have taken the edge of our disppointing visit, from which we are now relunctant to try again anytime soon!

“really bad”
Reviewed December 14, 2012

heard some good things about this place so thought i would visit with some friends. there was 4 of us in total, when we entered we were pretty much just left to seat ourselves,no waiting staff to be seen for at least 5 minutes, then a lady and a young man walked in,giggling and stinking of cigarette smoke, these 2 turned out to be the managers!! we decided against ordering anything from the meager looking menu and decided to head to the george & dragon instead. will not be returning here again

“Great food”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

We normally visit on a Sunday for lunch. The roast is one of the best, if not the best in the area. As a treat we visited on Thursday 30/11/12 to sample the Christmas lunch menu, and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Still as good as when Stuart was at the Farmer's Arms at Huxley. An advantage of the Sunday lunch menu is that as we usually have my mother- in- law with us an she enjoys the smaller portion meal that is more than enough for her.

Hello Alillyp,
Thank you so much for taking the time to give us some feedback. I'm delighted that you enjoyed our festive menu a few Thursdays ago- we're certainly very proud of the quality and value for money it offers. Our Sunday roasts are pretty infamous amongst those in the know for their generous portions and delicious tastes, but as you well know we can do a smaller portion for lighter appetites. Thank you once again, we'll look forward to seeing you soon.
Warmest Regards
Sarah
