The place is really nice and relaxing..
Staff (Allan) and the owner are very friendly and accommodating and they are happy to help us in our need. Me and hubby are happy and satisfied to our 3D2N stay at SunBloom Resort. Even Macky (DOG) is friendly hope she still there when we come back. Definitely will come back again in our next vacation. Highly recommended to all

Well, here we go! A trip we've been waiting after a long time.
After a long journey fm Manila(Cubao) - Sta Cruz on Jan.28th 2017,we were met by Mr Allan Buenaobra , the Reservations Manager. He gave us a warm welcome & attended to all our needs. The period was no doubt on Chinese New Year Day, but we were not able to see anyone else except us. According to Mr Allan,"they've checked out". We arrived @about 5 p.m.& it was nice as we had the whole resort to ourselves. Peaceful & quiet! The resort is opposite of Dawal Beach Resort, from the main road, walk about 100 meters & a small right for about 50 meters. The path is paved with small beach like, lime stones(watch your step) & especially at night, please bring aong a small torchlight or use your mobile light to walk as there are not lamp post along the walk to Sunbloom.

So we unwind & headed straight to Dawal Resort for dinner,as we didn't have any breakfast but light lunch on board that we brought. Since it was recommended by other travelers,"that the food is good" at Dawal. As my spouse and i approached the restaurant reception facing the main entrance, we were greeted by a young lady who was not able to reply me in English, when I asked for 'table for two please'. Disappointment #1 for the evening. Instead, she totally ignored me & spoke to my wife in Tagalog. How rude can one be on your first day for a meal at Dawal?! Ok, we had a table for 2,then we totally ignored! I must say! The restaurant wasn't crowded to begin with & we were there before 6 p.m. I had to go all the way to cashier & asked a lady to take our order, get the menu & water never came till we had to ask again. When it finally came, the glasses were smelly! To wait for a change of water took time again till my wife had to ask the waiter to atleast bring her fruit shake! We could actually see waiters & waitresses standing around but not able to see us waiting for a menu!

Finally our clean water & food arrived, pretty good, but the 'buttered chicken' was oily. Another setback, they played very, very loud rock music, when people ,including families & senior citizens were having dinner & we can hardly hear ourselves speak. I won't recommend going there, ever!!!!!

Now, we had a good sleep at Sunbloom & i was able to hear the waves beating against the beach. The next morning we started our day early, as Mr Allan arranged our transport to Potipot isle about 0730. We we were supposed to leave after 6 a.m. Mr Allan was probably having his "beauty sleep" or tired as he looked quite tired when we arrived but, no worries. Nice fellow though. So off we went to Potipot which is 5 mins away & cost P400 return fare on a small boat(like a small island catamaran). On arrival, we had to pay another P100 ea, entrance fee & those who want to overnight, that's P300. Entrance fees are payable at a small admin lodge run by two(2) ladies. There are many lodges or cottages including a double storey 'Tree lodge'! Looks kool but wouldn't recommend families with children as it isn't save.

One can doa 360 deg. walk of the isle within 20 mins but depending on how fast one walks. Please brig your own snorkeling gear as there are none to rent on the island nor can you purchase at Sunbloom but at Dawal they only have chidrens snorkel set( very basic & cheap @P150). In the morning the tide is down, one can buy food & drinks a little pricey as they had to get it from the mainland. All of these are sold at the admin lodge. The island wasn't up to our expectation, but ok to take a nap with endless breeze,a nice swim & picnic.

Sad to say, the locals mainly are not keeping this nice island CLEAN. No doubt there are bins to dispose your rubbish. We can only hope more efforts put in to keep the island clean. As the old saying goes,'Take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints'. My wife and i had a nice nap, took lovely pictures & made our own lunch & the boat man came right on time. Later we went into town after a nice shower but i must say at Sunbloom there are no hotshowers, food nor breakfast & blankets. I was told that they use the bed sheet covers as blankets. Sunbloom, you need to improve on that areas not forgetting the path walk with lamps. Food in town was simple for dinner & ok. Takes 15 mins by bus & you can alight at 'Magic mall'.(P25ea). If you take a trike,it's P100,one way. Tell the bus driver to alight you @'Magic Mall'.

Finally our day was over & had a peaceful rest, stress free, away from the hustle bustle of city life & pollution. I would;like to thank Mr Allan & his brother for a nice & warm stay. Not forgetting the bus driver & conductor of Cisco bus '106' who kindly waited for my spouse who was rushing after work when departing Manila(Cubao).

Room Tip: The Standard Rooms are affordable & good for for 4 on the ground floor. P1,400.00 p/d.

We are pleased to hear your visit was mostly favourable and we note your comments about the messy conditions at Potipot Island and will be forwarding them to the caretakers along with our own concerns. We feel this is a very significant attraction for many people and it needs to be maintained even if this means not collecting as much in profits.
We are glad Allan was able to look after your needs during the visit and we have been considering the possibility of an alternative to having to go next door for your meals. We would like to re-open the restaurant as it served great food at good prices. We will need to discuss what kind of a menu we should go with and maybe you can assist us by sending your suggestions?
We look forward to having you back any time and thanks for your feedback, it is appreciated.

Sunbloom resort (6 to 7-hour bus ride from Caloocan bus terminal), seems to be the nearest resort to Potipot Island. It also seems to have the most perfect view of the island.

Beach front’s very clean and well-maintained compared to the other resorts. We had a relaxing stay at Sunbloom. It's quiet and relaxing and I guess we were the only guests since it off-peak season.

I enjoyed some ME time morning moment on the “second floor” of I don’t-know-how-they-call-it place (you might think it’s their restaurant). View of the entire beach, as well as the island is great.

From Caloocan Victory Liner bus station, fare’s more than 400 pesos. Tell the cashier you’re bound for Dawal, Sta. Cruz, Zambales. Tell the bus driver to drop you off at Dawal just before entering Sta. Cruz.

Few things to remember:

- Text Allan's number for reservation (Allan's number is on their website. Sending email and/or filling out their online reservation form might never "arrive" on their end. You'll instantly/immediately receive a confirmation message from Allan

- Bring your own food. There’s no restaurant inside the resort, but you’re welcome to dine at Dawal Resort’s restaurant which is just a few steps away from Sunbloom.

- Bring flashlight in case you don’t have a good eyesight and wish to have your dinner at Dawal. Way to Sunbloom and Dawal’s a bit "pebbly".

- No TV and wifi. You may have your own data or net connection, but the signal won’t be that strong.

- Bathroom’s small and not spacious (hence, it’s better to use the pail and dipper). Bathroom’s still generally clean. No hot water, but those lamigin like me can still survive taking a bath even without hot water (but be ready the moment you come out of the bathroom and the air con’s turned on)

I only had one concern at that time when it comes to their blanket and pillow case. The fabric’s not really made of cotton, but they actually're curtain-made-into-pillow case-and-blanket (we use the same curtain at home).

We only had an overnight stay, but two days is I guess an ideal length of stay at Sunbloom, provided that you’ll be visiting Potipot island, too.

Hello Erika - thanks for writing to review your stay at Sunbloom. Your feedback is important to us. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay and the visit to Potipot Island. We agree the Victory Liner trip is a good way to get here as it takes all the stress out of driving through the relentless traffic.
We actually check the online reservation forms daily and we receive copies of all requests so you can rest assured your inquiries will be answered, usually the same or next day. If you call ahead we can cater your meals for you too!
Let us know if there is anything we can do to make your next visit more enjoyable!

I have no issue when in comes to reservation. Allan Buenaobra was very accommodating and organized. He managed to attend all our concerns when we arrived early in sun bloom.

The resort don't have swimming pool, but who cares, clean beach is just waiting in front of the resort.

We actually preferred to stay in family room but due to high season we took one standard room and one dormitory for the first night and on the 2nd night the one in the standard room needs to transfer to dorm style. The only issue we had is the aircon in one dormitory room that lack maintenance and the rooms are not soundproof. If you have little kid with you forget about the dorm style for more privacy.
The resort is strict when it comes to check-in time and check out time during high season.

Other than that, the place is clean and beach front are well maintained. There are staffs available that you can ask for assistance. The guard is also nice when ever we park or decided to go out on wet market for food. I wasn't able to meet mrs Crout personally but I met her sister and she is hospitable with smile on her face. The resort is just across the Potipot island with white sand beach where you can bond with your family with minimal entrance fee per head.

Our family actually booked another stay here this coming Dec 23-25, 2016. We are all excited. Hopefully on my 2nd review I can give an excellent star. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

After our overnight in Potipot we headed directly to Sunbloom Resort (you can ask your bangkero to direct you there). When we reached the place we were early and unfortunately there are still guests in our reserved room so we cannot check in and had to wait till 1pm. Hehe. But we did not waste our time waiting because they had a basketball court and guests can borrow a basketball for free! (Yey!). There's also volleyball so we get to play beach volleyball. Then we checked in and cooked lunch we were not charged corkage fee for our portable stove and we were also able to borrow a pan since we only brought pot. There's also grilling area available and since we stayed from sunday to monday we had the place almost to ourselves. For the night we had a bonfire which was by the way not allowed in Potipot Island.
If you're on a budget there's a Tapsilog eatery near the Hotel on the way to the main road. If you're a big group like us (we were 7) there are restrooms outside the rooms that you can use instead of waiting. Overall the place is clean, the staff are all nice and accommodating and the location is great.

Room Tip: The room that we got is near the stairs and has a balcony (but it's not a private balcony. hehe). :)
