Was looking for a dog friendly hotel, so our dog could come away with us. We weren't disappointed as the hotel/b&b was extremely friendly dogs allowed everywhere. Room was a bit small, but was advised this when I called to book as it was the last room available. Food wasn't the best I've had. Breakfast was very filling and even the dog got his own sausage.

So quaint on the outside but what a disappointment! We visited in the evening for a meal but the food was very overpriced and poor quality. Bar area was uninviting and felt grubby. Would not go there again.

This inn is very dog friendly (dogs are even treated to a sausage at breakfast-time). The quiz master last Wednesday evening was great fun, very entertaining, professional and witty. He made us feel welcome and special as he very cleverly did to all. The above are the two reasons I am not rating the Castle Inn as 'terrible'. On arrival we were made to wait to check in and then told rather brusquely to go to the other bar. We felt that we were an inconvenience. The room was cramped and not clean ((dusty fake flowers, dusty ornaments, paint peeling from walls). We were told the door to a courtyard should be left unlocked as it is a fire escape for all rooms in the cottage. We were told not to use the door or the garden. As our room door was locked at night how were other guests to access this fire escape? Light fitting had unsightly, ill matching bulbs. Nasty cheap duvet felt like lying under a slice of lightly toasted bread. 2 pillows ditto. Whole place festooned with cross notes advising guests not to do this and not to do that. Breakfast: fruit salad on the menu, hurrah. No. Told it 'hadn't arrived yet'. ??? Do they buy in ready prepped fruit salad? I requested poached eggs with uncooked tomatoes. The eggs arrived with 2 cooked tomatoes. I politely pointed this out to the waiting staff and the plate was taken away. When the eggs were returned they were accompanied by 1 uncooked tomato. Why? One poached egg was perfect, the other solid. My husband had over cooked smoked haddock and scrambled eggs so overdone they were actually granular. Dogs adored their sausages. Breakfast was accompanied by blaring music which stopped suddenly only to be replaced with staff conversation (VERY voluble) about I.T. issues. All very shouty as if no guests were in the dining room. Other guests exchanged glances and raised eyebrows. Hilarious, we felt like naughty schoolchildren. We were very disappointed and will certainly not return. The Castle Inn offers extremely poor value for money. They charge top end prices in return for third rate accommodation, microwaved meals, ineptitude in the kitchen and uninterested staff. If you are looking for dog friendly accommodation in Dorset, try the Langton Arms at Tarrant Monkton. Superb HOME-MADE food (including jams, marmalades) masses of fruit and berries at breakfast AND cheaper than the Castle Inn!

Found the place to be very over priced. Not worth the money for micro waved meals, We ordered 3 meals and they came out at all different times., and as I said food was not good. the fish was under cooked, half my chips were under cooked, my son's meal was the same instant mash not real potato, gravy had way too much salt in it. As for my wife's meal the less said the better...what a rip off

Really cozy friendly traditional English Inn. Only spent one night here, took Hamish our Scottie dog and he loved it. The whole place is dog friendly and he was even treated to sausages at breakfast. The quiz was fun but did seem to run a bit to long. Dinner was tasty and well cooked. Our room was small but cozy, clean and plenty of tea & coffee and bed was comfortable. We shall be back, it's so nice to find somewhere that accommodates dog and make them so welcome.

All good here. The food is nice and well valued. The room was nice and well kept and clean. Staff were friendly, always. Beer was good, something like 40 ciders available plue several real ales. Beer drinkers paradise. Breakfasts were good. Yes they love dogs, so mdo I and we were very welcome, as was the dag. Gonna give this place the full top mark. Thanks Castle Inn.

We stayed at the Inn for four nights. We were given a room at the back of the cottage, no 3. We had a bedroom, separate bathroom and a corridor area with a door to the outside yard. There was plenty of room for us and the dog. The room was checked daily and the bedding was clean, towels were replaced daily as were the tea and coffee provisions. The decor was shabby and very down at heel but it suited us with the dog. The bed was only a basic double, not the kingsize that most hotels have updated to,not good with a very tall partner. I could see that other bedrooms were small and cramped. The breakfast was good every day, I had poached eggs that were perfectly done. The mushrooms and bacon were good, the 'full English' was okay if you wanted it, but they gave you what you wanted. The staff were welcoming and friendly, we really couldn't fault them. The Inn had lots of board games to play, there was a good range of beer and cider. The food was very basic 'pub grub' although the ham we had one day was freshly cooked and delicious in a bagette. There is a much better restaurant down the road that accepts dogs. We had a four nights for the price of three. At this price it was fair, too pricey if you had to pay the full amount.

Room Tip: Room 3 in the cottage was much bigger than the other rooms we saw in the cottage, and it had a door...
