“Lovely pub, rubbish fish & chips.”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

A really lovely pub in a lovely location, really friendly, helpful staff (mostly South African it seems) ruined by the worst fish n chips I've ever had in a British pub, especially by the coast. Perfectly edible but both the fish and chips were clearly frozen from the supermarket and deep fat fried. Not a fresh bit of cod battered and fried, but reformed fish pressed into a fake shape and 1cm thick. With fresh fish available on your doorstep, very disappointing.

I would happily come back for a drink, but not to eat.

The Castle Inn is a very old building with lots of character and is ideally situated just minutes away from the lovely Dorset coast, with easy access to Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door.
Wonderful and very spacious rooms, very helpful and friendly staff, garden to the rear and benches in front to make the most of the sunshine.
Good food is being served too, and the pub has a permanent cider festival with 23 real ciders available. A free booklet is given with all detail and descriptions of the ciders so you can "tick them off" when you have tasted them. The beer and ciders are available in 1/3 pint measures.
All in all, very comfortable accommodation, good food, splendid location, very knowledgeable staff and lots and lots of cider!

Just back from a weekend stay - again. As always, large portions of traditional pub grub and a monster cooked breakfast - with a sausage for the dog of course. The bedrooms are a little tired and the carpets a bit worn, but this is well worth putting up with for the rest. The real ales and ciders are well kept and very welcome and the staff are all very friendly and do their best to ensure everyone is properly served. They were very busy on Friday and Saturday evening due to the good weather and food was a bit slower than they usually are but the staff were doing their utmost to keep everyone happy and served as quickly as they could. We will be going back again to stay in the future.

Can't vouch for accommodation as didn't stay however stopped for evening meal which was good but let down by the attitude of the staff and the service.
Wide variety of food available but no table menu which means you have to find a table then lose it when you go to find the menu board and order. No obvious food ordering counter. Loud, arrogant staff. Not overly welcoming. Starter arrived after we'd eaten our main and then member of staff was surprised when we didn't want it. Definitely wouldn't go back again.

Just got back from our two night break, Rooms are dated and could really do with a re vamp but did not really bother us as was only a couple of days - Breakfast was amazing and my dog really enjoyed the Sausages that she was given at breakfast. The Area is lovely would have liked to go on more walks but the weather was so hot would not been fair on my dog. The Lulworth Cove Pub at the bogttom of the hill is a lovely place to eat too,

If you like dogs and a dog friendly pub and are not too bothered about the standards you are staying in then this place is for you. However I have a dog and have visited many dog friendly pubs with accommodation 100% better than this. Our room was extremely tired and dated with a very below standard bathroom. We did not have a mirror in the bedroom, the bed had an old candle wick bedspread over the duvet and the carpets were dirty and worn. The bathroom was dirty, damp and wood lice were crawling around on the floor.
The rooms have no sound proofing and it was extremely annoying to be woken up by guests above and next door to us snoring.
Breakfast was below standard with everything where possible deep fried. Dogs are allowed to accompany you to breakfast which is nice but when you have a dining room full of growling and panting dogs it can be quite off putting. We ate in the pub the first night which to be fair was fine but opted for a nicer dining experience further down the road the next two nights. Although the staff were helpful and friendly it has to be said that in all the areas that are important i.e. cutlery, breakfast crockery, bathroom ect cleanliness had a lot be desired. Our 3 night visit was topped off by returning from breakfast after checking out to find the cleaners
had started cleaning our room and moved our belongings on to the floor!! The area is beautiful and I will return with my dog but if no other dog friendly accommodation is available in the area I will camp!!!
