We went to primarily walk part of the Coastal Path, which is stunning. Fortunately, the weather was quite mild, although very windy when high up on the cliffs! Following our walk, we went into the Lulworth Lodge for coffee. There are a number of other shops/cafes and plenty of 'pay and display' parking, which is probably mainly taken in hot weather. A great place to visit, that has something for all ages.

I did not stay in park, I stayed in a shepherd’s but 2 miles down the road in W. Lulworth. That being said, the hike up to the trailhead is a good warm up. I recommend the following:
- Hiking boots: the terrain is a mix of grass, mud/ dry dirt, pebbles and paved road. Thus, supportive and stable footwear is a must. Safety first.

- A pack: for snacks and water. Depending on how much hiking you plan on doing you will need the energy boost. We did about 8 miles.

- Comfortable clothing: work out/ hiking gear recommended as you will probably break a sweat and you will need to showcase some cat- like reflexes at certain points.

The incline on the trail is serious, so be ready to work those legs. If you have time head down to Lulworth. The town is just adorable and affordable ( see review for Finley’s). The winds are VERY strong so be sure to use caution and good judgement if you are posing for a photo near the cliff side. There is a a stairway leading down to the door. Please watch your step, it is riddled with puddles and mud because of the rain and there are no handrails.

You can’t fault the location, but you need to be careful getting to the beach. The steps going down can be Treacherous as they become, Wet and slippery depending on weather conditions. Parking iPhone not cheap but reasonable and when I was there a booth was opened to get a drink.

A lot of hassle trying to park and really busy. The car park is not regulated and people park wherever they want causing chaos. Nice pub meal at Lulworth Cove made it worthwhile

Thanks for your report. We do have attendants helping ensure the smooth running of the car park and do our best to get visitors to park in an orderly fashion. We will check whether there was anything untoward affecting car parking yesterday.

When I visit Dorset each year i always visit both these places though I am now quite familiar with them. I would say essential viewing for anyone visiting or staying in the area, though I nearly always run into large parties of schoolchildren which rather spoils the tranquillity i would like - there are plenty of other spots along the coastline which are much less frequented and which have scenic views. A welcome addition at Durdle Door is a pedestrian footpath running from the main road through the woods alongside the entrance road complete with some benches - makes it much easier to get to the coast if on foot or bicycle.

We visited here today with our two dogs, we went to lulworth cove first, the parking seems mega expensive until you realise it’s one payment for both car parks so we paid £4 for two hours of parking.

We took our dogs onto the beach for a little run which they quite enjoyed and took some pictures of the cliffs and sea. We then drove up to Durdle door carpark and did the same.

We saw a number of people walking over the cliffs and I’m sure it’s a nice walk if you are able to do it.

Lots of opportunity to take photos of the cliffs, sea and surrounding areas.

We decided to go back to lulworth cove for lunch and ending up having to pay another £4 for 2 hours of parking, so my advice is to really think about how much time you are going to spend there as the more time you buy upfront the cheaper it is!

Thank you for your report and details about the parking. Most people do appreciate that it is good value when they understand that it is for both car parks and that the money from parking goes towards upkeep of this beautiful area, visitor services (health and safety, facilities, footpath maintenance etc) and our conservation and education programmes. We are glad you enjoyed your windy visit!

Lulworth Cove & Durdle Door are beautiful parts of the Dorset coastline. The area is great for walkers & hill climbers. It was extremely windy and wet when we were there so unfortunately did not get down to Durdle Door.

Its the beautiful coast and a nice walk. We spent lot of time on beach. There are no food stalls around so I would recommend you to carry some of your stuff. Children can have fun, but beach gets steep suddenly. Its a pebble beach.

Thank you for your report. For other readers’ information, there are some places to buy food at Durdle Door car park most of the time and there is a wealth of choice of eateries at Lulworth Cove, including the lovely Boat Shed, right on the water’s edge.

We parked in Lulworth Cove and walked to Durdle Door (Not for the faint hearted) Its quite a walk up steep steps and hills. If you’re not a fan of heights then keep away from the edge! Give it a go, it’s completely worth it and quite a sense of achievement if you’re not a seasoned walker - which I’m not... the most gorgeous views!

Lulworth cove is pay and display parking but very modern parking machine, you pay by card and it’s not too badly priced. Clean public toilets near the Information Centre. Lots of places to get food and drinks.

We walked to Durdle Door first then returned to Lulworth Cove for a well deserved break. It took us approx 2 hours to walk to Durdle Door and back, that was literally walking there and back and only stopping to take photos - you can make a day of it if you took a picnic and stopped off along the way to take in the views.

You must get an ice cream from Jakes Cafe.. they are HUGE and completely delicious.. Nutty-Ella flavour is yummyyy! We strolled down to the cove and sat on the beach, so peaceful and beautiful.

If you’re in the area this is a must to visit.

Some of the most beautiful coastline I have ever seen!

We were lucky enough to have some nice weather today when we visited. It was my first visit to Durdle Door and it was lovely to finally see it ‘in person’.

Highly recommend a visit, especially if you’re lucky enough to get a nice day in low season, (when it’s relatively quiet), as we did.
