“Great walk”

Durdle Door & White Nothe Circular Walk

Owner description: A challenging walk along the South West Coast Path. It is a switchback up and down four hills before returning along a relatively level ridge. It offers great photo opportunities passing some of the geological highlights of the Jurassic Coast. In late Spring and early summer the limestone grassland beside the path is full of rare flowers and clouds of butterflies.

No doubt this is one of the most beautiful beach spots I even been. I grew up in Puerto Rico, where beaches are gorgeous; also, I have visited amazing beaches in the World, however, the Jurassic Coast in England and unspoiled beaches make this destination on the top of my list. I recommend this attraction for walking trail or spend a day at the beach. Make sure to protect from the sun and bring food/drinks. Close by the durdle door, you can drive or walk to West Lulworth cove where there are a few restaurants and visitor centre. To visit the cove there is no fee, however, if you are using the car park, you must pay per hour. Limited food/drink truck vendor is on site on peak season. Hiking is moderate. Durdle door can be accessed from West Lulworth Cove car park - Durdle door car park parking paid ticket also works in West Lulworth cove car park

Our family did this walk in July 13. I'd recommend it as a moderately challenging walk with gorgeous coastal views. We walked the loop in about four hours, at a moderate pace, stopping often to take photos and admire the view. We did encounter mist on the trail near White Nothe (Nose) that obscured the sea views, but this lifted inland. The coastal path is hilly, but the return along the ridge is almost flat. For an added challenge, I would walk back along the coast as well.

We actually walked from Lulworth Cove, so had to negotiate Hambury Tout before arriving at Man O' War Bay and Durdle Door. The scenery here almost guarantees that you will just want to sit and gawp for a while. That is certainly advisable, since you will soon be faced with the climb over Swyre Head, and down again, before you can contemplate the long uphill stretch over White Nothe for more great vistas. You can, of course, simply retrace your steps along the coast path if you should so wish. But it is easier on the muscles if you push on to where the coast path joins the track that runs along the top, without the switchbacks, back to the Durdle Door campsite.

Be prepared to make this a day walk. Take some food; PLENTY of water; and use the Factor 30 freely - you will need it if the sun shines!
