“How long does it take to make a crab sandwich and flat soft drinks.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2012

Visited the Bishops Cottage at approx 2.00 pm on a fairly sunny afternoon. We sat outside and noticed the place had several empty tables, but they had not been cleared or tidied from earlier customers and was attracting wasps. The establishment is also a hotel and I went inside the main building and approached a counter where I thought you ordered food and drinks; only to be ignored by a middle aged man sitting behind it. I then found the bar area where it took a while for me to be served, as the person being served before me had a problem with their order, and was asking for a refund (found out later that they could not wait any longer). When I at last got served, young chap that served me did not apologise for keeping me waiting or even bother to say hello. I ordered our food 2 fresh local crab? sandwiches a coke and a lemonade. We were served a flat coke and a flat lemonade out of very large supermarket plastic bottles with too much ice and one of the glasses had lip stick on it (that I got changed) again no apology. I went back outside to our table and we waited 45 minutes for 2 so called fresh local crab sandwiches, that arrived with a very tired salad garnish and did not taste like fresh local crab. Why so long? the place was not busy did not appear to be short of staff. Again no apology for the wait..
We visited the toilets just before we left and they were in need of a revamp, as they were two outside unisex cubicles with lights that did not work and a lock missing off one of the doors.
£10 for 2 tired fresh? crab sandwiches and flat soft drinks with more ice then drink - together with lousey customer service and toilets = a NO NO.

“Perfect!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2012

We had been eyeing up this place with its fresh fish menu during a 3 day break & decided to have or last supper there. We expected it to be much pricier than it was and the proprietor & the chef could not have been nicer. The scallops & sea bass were some of the best i have tasted and the whole evening was so lovely. Service (friendly but unobtrusive) food, ambience and amazing value! 3 courses, a bottle of wine, coffees & brandies all for under £55. Highly recommended.

We try and keep it simple, fresh and good value. We do not rush things and try to make the whole meal relaxed. Fast food is not what we do. Thank you for seeing what we do and enjoying it. The words of praise along with some helpful points make us better. Thank you and hope to see you again.

“Enjoyable meal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2012 via mobile

We stayed in a B&B in Lulworth for a few days and took the opportunity to try out the various restaurants in the Cove.

We chose this restaurant as it had fresh fish on the menu and the manager was trying out a new dish which sounded worthy of a try (crab cheese cake).

Food arrived in good time and perfectly cooked. The service very attentive. Talking to the manager she explained they had recently renovated the restaurant. It is very tastefully done creating a cosy seaside feel.

All in all a good menu, perfectly cooked and a positive experience.

Glad you enjoyed the crab cheesecake !!! I am looking at more winter fare now. Chestnut and herb meatballs with sherry gravy and nettles. Thank you and we hope to see you again.

“Rustic charm”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012

We just stopped for something to eat as it was such a lovely location. The landlord was very friendly and we were seated say) at a wooden table near the window - it was a lovely position and we watched people coming and going. We had a starter each (1 scallops and 1 prawns) and we shared both the dishes, which were very flavoursome and beautifully cooked. Both main courses were very good too. As for the overall place, it had rustic charm but felt that it needed a few little extra touches (the napkins (brown with sort of white flecks) which seemed to have been through the washing machine hundreds of times left a lot to be desired and it just seems as if a bit more colour and finishing touches wouldn't go amiss. Having said that, the food was good and was not overpriced.
