Booked this "a al cart restaurant" for a table of 6 for the wifes birthday. The decor is different from a normal restaurant but I have seen this type of deco before its a bit like "marmite" if you know what I mean. On arriving everything was fine, a couple of drinks before going through to the restaurant, 2 of our party were late as they couldn't find it but the restaurant is out of the way. All bar one ordered starter and they were good but from there onwards the meal and service went down hill, a total mix up by the waitress of what potatoe dishes went with a certain dish, even though my wife questioned that her meal came with fries and not boiled the waitress was insintant and we had it wrong only for the other waitress a few mins later bring out chips to my brother inlaw and say "the lady over there has your potatoes on her plate so would you have the fries" as my brother in law was having lamb and doesn't like fries said "no" he wanted potatoes as ordered. So the waitress removed his food and 5 mins later came back with it this time with potatoes, but the potatoes were hard and his lamb was no longer hot but luke warm going cold so he asked for it to be taken away he was no longer going to eat. Some 10 - 15 mins later the waitress returned with a meal (everyone else had eaten theirs) which she put in front of my brother law and said " we have cooked some potatoes, CLEANED OFF the jus from the lamb, REHEATED THE LAMB and coated with fresh jus", which obviously was refused the rest of us were then asked if anyone else wanted it as it will only be binned, we all obviously refused. Of the other main meals I had 1/2 a thermador lobster with potatoes and salad, the potatoes were new and unseasoned and presented in a very small bowl, the salad was lettuce leaves with a sliced up tomatoe and sliced cucumber, the wifes fillet was very tuff. The only dessert had were the strawberries and cream which came on a black coloured board which consisted of some small meringue pieces, stale brown squares, about 4 strawberries cut up, ice cream and FROZEN clotted cream. All the meals were a basic presentation with no thought or pride, my brother in law left early and did complain to the "manager/owner" which fell on death ears, no compensation or redemption was offered to him. The waitress kept coming back to us with various excuses and when sister in law stated that her potatoes were also hard, the waitress said "could we tell the complaining gentleman that his weren't the only hard potatoes", you couldn't make it up, no apology.
Would any of us eat here again NO, you are paying for "al a carte" but not getting it, I have had better meals and service in a beefeater. This is a small restaurant as well the main seating area has about 10 tables and on this particular night we were the bigest party (6) and most of the tables had 2 people at them, I hate to think what it would have been like had they been busy.
There are far better places to eat in Maidstone, Lenham or Ashford.
