“Weekend getaway”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2013

I was doing a lot of searching for my partner and I to go for a weekend away. Looking at cottages/log cabin getaways. And i stumbled apon this place. I inititally thought it was a hotel with each room having it's own setup with Jacuzzi bath. Apon arrival and checking in we found out it wasn't a hotel per say but more like a hotel room in a log cabin style settings, so that was a welcoming surprise. I would say generally the reception/bar/restaurant setup and staff were very good. The food was nice. Nice location. Of course having a car is a must. And would recommend and go again. I would say for a weekend was a lil pricey, but i think for a longer stay it would be worth the money. I think the only other thing which i guess can't be down to them to "blame", is the address and finding on the Sat Nav, it takes you to the road/lane, but if you got a mobile it's best to use that when you get closer and search for "Who'd A Thought It", it would get you there more accurately.

We stayed here whilst looking for wedding venues in the area. We stayed in Moët and Chandon suite and the room was what we expected looks wise and lived up to the photos. We could not get wifi reception in the room which put us off a bit and phone signal was weak in the area. We had a sky box, but didn't have access to any other channels. However the bar had good wifi coverage and the bar sells different types of champagne to treat yourself. We didn't stay for food in the evening but the room was decorated nicely and we had a lovely breakfast the next day. Staff were friendly and service was good.

Good hotel to stay, but the location is a bit out of the way of anything mainstream, so a car is needed and wifi connection is poor. Perfect hotel for a couples getaway.

My partner booked a night here as a little treat for the bank holiday. Not sure how he found it but so glad he did. We arrived mid afternoon and walked into the bar to be greeted with the beautiful small from the vase of huge lillies placed on a table near the bar. The staff took our reservation and we then enjoyed a couple of drinks from the bar and sat outside enjoyed the sun and the peacefulness. We were then showed to our room No. 7 (not sure what name it was) Beautiful four poster bed with amazing décor. Very boutique! The bathroom was huge with a lovely spa bath...... the thing I noticed most were the "little touches" - how many guest houses/hotels provide you with an EMPTY fridge for you to use. We had taken a bottle of champagne and our own glasses but we were also provide with lovely little champagne glasses with the room. Luxurious bathrobes and huge soft towels were neatly folded in the room for us. We were given complimentary bottles of water and chocolates in our fridge. The four poster bed was beautifully upholstered and furnished with lovely cushions and a fur throw. We then enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast with a delicious asparagus starter for dinner. The bed was extremely comfortable. We enjoyed a lovely freshly cooked breakfast in the morning and again the little touches - a hand knitted tea cosy over our little pot of tea (knitted by Joan the owner) and a coffee bodum for one. These little things mean so much to me all go to make the stay so enjoyable. We will definitely be back again!!

Room Tip: I would have thought that ALL the rooms were lovely!

we arrived here after about half hour of driving up and down the road, only to phone hotel and they gave us good directions. the hotel is really out in the sticks but lovely. we arrived at 12 knowing our room wasn't ready till 2 but as was a lovely sunny day,, enjoyed a drink on the patio in comfy chairs until we could check in, we stayed in champagne and shoe room and it was lovely but a little overpriced at 260 pound, but saying that for a special occasion its worth the money.the room is openplan so think as long as you know your partner well its great but early in a relashionship forget this room as toilet is not private !the restaurant was really glizzy with loads of character wouldn't suit all but we liked it, food was really nice and service good.had a lovely breakfast and loved the oldie worldie theme.the location so peaceful and such nice food ,we will defiantly return

We had a fantastic time, second time at the restaurant and first time staying at the hotel. We were upgraded to the Champagne and Shoes room and had an excellent meal with delicious champagne and the jacuzzi bath was fantastic! Staff were friendly and helpful and we had quick service. Prices are expensive but it was a treat and a very unique location.

Got a “Groupon” voucher for my B'day. Did not know what to expect, as I have learnt not to judge by the photos published. Somehow they make places look much more appealing and of course the one, the very best room is advertised. First, the lack of directions made our journey by at least 30 minutes longer than necessary. We came to the “2miles” signage, but it was not facing the right direction and that was the longest 2 miles in UK!!! After few wrong turns and, to my partners horror, consulting some passes by in the nearby villages, we arrived to our destination. The surroundings we found quite pleasant but the reception could have a sign so you would know where to go ( there are quite a few hut like buildings on the site, so easy to get confused). The reception was unattended and we had to wait for 5-10 minutes to be seen by the lady we recognised from the “hotel inspector” as owner’s Mother. She is such an added value to the place! Worth waiting for! We were greeted and offered free upgrade to the room with hot tub. The offer was accepted with gratitude! The room we were shown to was a small hut type room, small but overlooking fields and had bags of character. Now it is not easy to describe the room – it reminded of a mix of Del Trotters bedroom and Parisian Courtesan’s boudoir. Animal print around made it look like a tent of Messiah Warrior. But the room was clean and comfort of hot tub greatly appreciated. In the evening we headed to the restaurant for dinner. Again, nice dining room spoiled by animal print overload. ( We are in Kent, not Nairobi!!! ) Forget the glitter ball, they have a glitter wall!!! But the friendly staff and quality of food was out of this world! Worthwhile going 180mile round trip for! This really should be something more celebrated and advertised! We had wonderful night sleep and in the morning got served full English breakfast – so generous that we decided to leave before the lunch which was added in the deal. Quite an experience! Go on, try it!

Room Tip: Go with open mind!

photos on the website looked so nice and really sold it to us, . we were expecting a fancy boutique style hotel it is a really old pub. the bedrooms are in converted out houses. the bedrooms were ok, found pubes in the bath no telephone in the room. i had to use my mobile to call the pub from our room. the food was reasonable, FANTASTIC range of champange. breakfast was well cooked but perhaps a little on the small side, 1 sausage, half a tomato, small amount of mushrooms, 2 small bits of bacon and 2 eggs. all in all not a bad visit but could do a little better.will probably be back
