We have just stayed here and had a great time. The staff were very welcoming and food is amazing. If you want to go somewhere a bit different then this is the place. Room was very clean and comfortable decor is quirky, loved the jacuzz and pink champayneI would stay here again.

We went to this hotel on August 27th (Bank Holiday Monday) and the experience started off poorly. We rang the hotel to confirm what time we could check in as it was our mini honeymoon night and we had booked the most expensive room on offer (the champagne shoes room). We were asked to come between 2-3pm, so upon arriving around 3.15pm we were told the room still wasn't ready. We were invited to the bar to wait, now bearing in mind the room is £260 a night.. You would of thought a complimentary beer or glass of wine would have been offered but no such gesture for their lack of timekeeping. We were shown to our room around 4.30pm by the manager (and I'm guessing the owner) only to be told on the way to the room that it had been his birthday the night previous and all the staff were exceptionally hungover hence the late room.

Ok I can live with that and people having a good time but I was less than enthralled by the welcome. The room itself was stunning and could not be faulted! HUGE Jacuzzi, massive bed. Very romantic.

We headed down for dinner around 6pm as we were told due to it being a bank holiday, the restaurant would be seating guests till then. Apparently the fact that everyone was hungover, also meant no one had been out to get any supplies for the restaurant as well. We were told only 4 of the 5 starters were available and only 3 of the 5 mains were available. We were expecting a reduced menu but this was ridiculous! My wife ordered the tomato and mozzarella salad for starter, only to be told 5 minutes later that the chef had no mozzarella and could offer the same dish with cheddar.

There were only 2 tables in the restaurant that night and we were rushed through our desserts so that could shut. No sort of personal service.

We emailed Joe (the email address on the website) on the 1st September detailing our bad experience. We didn't ask for anything to be reimbursed, we simply didn't want other people sharing our bad experience for their special occasion. I left my email address and phone number on the email as perhaps just a call to explain it was one of those days and they were sorry.

I'm still yet to hear from anyone at the hotel.. Take what you want from that regarding their attitude to customer feedback.

Room Tip: Special Occasion then the champagne shoes room is a must!

Surprised my fiance with a one night stay in The Bollinger Suite and we loved it. We were shown to our room on arrival and shown where everything was and how to use the tv etc. The room was a little chilly and the heater was put on for us and did the trick. The room was cosy and decorated in the quirky manner expected after seeing the rooms on the website. Not our normal taste but a bit of fun for a night away. We received a free small bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates as promised (people who complain not to have received them appear to have booked via Groupon and the website clearly states that these items and breakfast are only included if you pay full price so they have no reason to moan). I booked the Bollinger Suite specifically for the private hot tub and it was fantastic! Took less than 10 minutes to fill and there was plenty of hot water. Towels, bathrobes, hairdryer and straighteners were provided along with tea and coffee making facilities.
We had dinner in the restaurant. Plenty of choice of food, wine and champagne. The staff were very attentive, polite and knowledgable and the food was delicious, no complaints whatsoever.
Bed was very comfortable and no noise disturbances - most of the rooms were booked out the night we stayed.
We went to the restaurant for breakfast and we were offered a variety of drinks and toast whilst we waited for our full english to arrive. Again the staff were incredibly helpful and attentive. Another guest was a vegetarian so asked what else she could have instead of meat with her cooked breakfast - she was asked what she liked and they provided everything she asked for without hesitation.
All in all we had a fantastic stay and would love to go again. We had zero to complain about and really think other people are after something for nothing with some of their reviews. The staff deserve a real pat on the back for their friendly welcoming nature.

Room Tip: The Bollinger Suite is a must for anyone looking for a romantic getaway, the hot tub really makes it...

Had a fabulous stay, room was what we expected, staff were very attentive and meal in restaurant was outstanding. Yes it is a bit overpriced and the marketing is very good in as much as rooms look more exotic on the website! Would I stay here again... Oh a resounding yes, yes and yes!

We booked for 2 nights B&B through Hotels.com and had chosen the Perrier Jouet room at £160 per night, for September 28 and 29th, 2012. Upon arrival, we were told that we couldn't have that room as it had "a leak" and that we were being upgraded to a £180 pernight room. Within 2 minutes of being told the Perrier room had a leak, the same person told us that they had two Registration journals in which all bookings were recorded (Why 2?) and ours hadn't been recorded in the correct one and there had been a double booking. We were then told that we would have to move rooms agian for our second night, which didn't go down too well after a 4 and a half hour drive. Our new room, in a decidely chilly chalet, did not have the requested 4 poster but had a spa bath as "special extra". Other extras included two dead insects, a moth and a woodlice. The carpet in the room was dirty and even had a previous occupants' toe-nail clipping close to the door, charming. However, dinner was taken and was OK, with Liz the front-of house lady working hard and well to look after us. For an unknown reason, our car alarm went off several times through the night, which I eventually managed to switch off completely, having gone out to it and turned it off via the key a total of 3 times. It had never gone off before, so I have to wonder why it did that night. I spoke to and apologised profusely to another couple who had come out to check if it was theirs, and they were fine about it, as were two other couples i spoke to in the morning. Consequently, we were up early and walked around the premises, discovered the Perrier Jouet room, which happened to be open, so we peeked inside - it evidently hadn't been cleaned from the last occupants and hadn't been used the previous night, contrary to one of the excuses proffered by the proprietors. No signs of a leak, but the two mousetraps on the floor by the door rather gave the game away. At that point, we decided that we should find alternative accommodation elsewhere. Breakfast was un-necessarily late, either 9.30 or 10 a.m. In the meantime, the total lack of wi-fi or of any phone signal (Orange, 3G), was proving to be a problem with comms. with our business in Sheffield. No landline for public use, not even a phone in our room, these reasons added to our determination to leave. We found the Matriarch proprietor, who siad she fully understood our reasons and said she just wanted us to be happy customers. As we had booked and paid through Hotels.com, she said we had to claim our refund for the second night through them, but she would sanction it when Hotels.com contacted her. However, she refused to sanction it when they did contact her, citing our car alarm going off as the reason for not doing so. She obviously has a keen eye for favourable PR!! Not!! To their credit, Hotels.com have now refunded us in full for the second night, but I would not recommend this Inn to anyone. The pub/hotel we found later that morning, could not have been a greater contrast, the Oak at Charing is brilliant!

Room Tip: Avoid like the plague

There is no in-between and it is certainly quirky to say the least. We loved almost every minute of our groupon stay and it was definitely value for money. There were a few nigles with the room, but not important enough to mention in detail. The only BIG negative as far I was concerned was the constant running water in the pipes behind the shower which kept me awake, but not my partner. Our room was pleasantly decorated with the odd quirky touch and a fabulously comfy bed. It was very clean and although no wardrobe a coat stand with hangers surficed for our one night. There was also a private decked area which was nice and very quiet.

The decoration of the restaurant is more than a little unusual (!) but I loved it. We were also shown some of the other more glamorously decorated bedrooms which are all very different and have to be experienced as I could not do justice with my description.

My partner loved the food, but as I am a veggie I struggled a bit. Another quirk - a full english breakfast was served to us both without any enquiry about what we wanted. When I explained I was a veggie the breakfasts were both taken away and new ones produced, mine veggie. Staff all very friendly and nothing was a problem to them. They also seemed to enjoy their work.

All in all - recommended, but go with an open mind and enjoy its 'difference ness'. But follow the website direction as your satnav will take you up and down tiny country roads.

Upon arrival to the Who’d Have Thought It, our booking hadn’t been placed within the book and we were shown to our chalet by the chef. It was only our booking receipt that ensured we got our room.
When entering the room, it looked nothing like the pictures on the internet site hotels.com. The pictures had shown a classy room, though we were greeted to garish tiger print walls. (This is also reflected in the WHTI site with old images being used).
Paying £160 for one night in a small pre-fab chalet. Not worth it anywhere, even if it does have a Jacuzzi/bath
There was no phone in the room to call reception, no hangers in the wardrobe, the shower handle was broken. Though on the plus side, the room was clean.
We arrived at dinner at 8:15pm, moved from 8:00pm because it was ‘busy’. The restaurant could seat 30 diners, though there were 8 in there upon entering. Restaurant staff were friendly and polite.
There were no vegetarian options on the menu and the prices were a rip off, and we were under constant attack from fruit flies. I mentioned to my girlfriend that Alex Polizzi channel 5’s hotel inspector should come here to sort it out. Though when looked at the hotel internet site on our return, she already had!!!

Having ordered two £26 fillet steaks ‘medium/rare’, both arrived cooked as ‘well done’. Though we ate these because we didn’t want to stay any longer than needed too battling with the fruit flies.
We skipped dessert and asked for the bill, which I noticed had extra drinks added to our bill that we hadn’t ordered.
Breakfast was stated as between 9-10am within the hotel book found in the room. Though when arriving at 9:15, the hotel was closed. No staff on reception and no movement within the dining area. In the end we left and popped our chalet key through the letter box at 9:30am and went for breakfast at another local pub.
I would not recommend nor stay at this hotel again.
