“delightful rustic charm”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

Five of us stayed for 2 nights in July 2013, in 2 en-suite rooms . We could not have been more enchanted by the hotel’s rustic charm. The beds were comfortable, the bathtubs deep, the pretty antique furnishings made us were feel we were staying in someone’s house, not a hotel. The rooms and bathrooms were immaculate, the lounge was spacious with many soft sofas, and the garden was large and pleasant, with comfortable lawn furniture. We could have happily spent all day lazing about in the garden or on the hotel’s front porch, both were so pleasant. The views from our balconies were lovely. Breakfast was typically continental – several kinds of fresh bread, cornflakes or muesli, yogurt, fruit, local honey & preserves, hard-boiled eggs, etc. – what’s not to like? My own imperatives – big soft towels, & wi-fi – were both provided. However, the rooms do not have 3-star amenities such as hair-dryer, toiletries, coffee-&-tea makers (nor English-language TV) – but on the other hand, the owners Olivier Gaspoz and family are so helpful and accommodating that they would probably supply you with anything like that which you asked for, as they did us (excepting English TV!) Their generosity and kindness was endearing. The whole hotel is delightful.

My 'very good' has to be understood in the proper context- eg it is fantastic value for money, and a real feel for Ye Olde Switzerland. I stayed with a friend and we each had a 2 bedded room each, with a sink and old-fashioned bathroom at the end of the corridor, No problem as we were the only ones on that floor. Yes, it is rustic- totally unfair for US visitors to say 'not up to standards'!!! The price was much less than any B&B in UK, and less than half the price of a more modern tourist hotel- so you have to go with the right attitude and spirit. It gives you a real feel of what tourism was like at the turn of last century, with old wooden balconies, wood clad walls and rustic furniture. The double rooms with en-suite are much more 'luxurious' and still very good value for money. The owner and her son are very friendly, and couldn't do more for you- and a mine of information, as born and bred in the area. The rusticity is the charm- and the location absolutely amazing. Fabulous for walking and skiing- and the shoulder seasons are superb too- with flaming larch forests in autumn and wonderful flowers in Spring, and of course Summer. Loved it and will be back again, and again.

Stayed two nights April 2013. Hotel is very old. Linoleum on walls in bathroom is falling off, floors are incredibly squeeky and bed even more so. Shampoo was a single brief of duschgel and shampoo combo for two people for two days. Breakfast with cheap industiral food - not even a local cheese available.
Service was very friendly and helping us with our toddler. If very old equals charming then this could be a great choice but judging from the surrounding hotels then much more contemporary accomodation is the general standard.

Excellent hotel family run for years. Quiet and clean room and generous breakfast. Very friendly hosts with a personal touch. We stayed one night only but would recommend this beautiful village and hotel. Ask for hosts recommendations for restaurants. Old fashioned hotel but that is part of the charm. If you want modern facilitates this is the not the hotel for you. We loved it.

We have stayed at this hotel about 15 times since our first visit in 1984 when we came from Sion on the bus.. The village is still a charming place to visit and there are many walks and hikes that can be made right from the hotel. There is an excellent restaurant just a few feet from the hotel--and others in the village also. We always enjoy visiting with Madame C. and her children who may be there (adults now).

Room Tip: There is no elevator so we always ask for a room with a balcony on the lowest floor available in cas...

We spent a few nights this spring in this charming, family-run hotel. It was the end of ski season and not yet summer season; the surrounding area was great for hiking, and very accessible from the hotel. The hotel is just in the center of this small alpine town, very convenient to commerce and restaurants. We had two rooms with private bathrooms; very clean, very quiet, very old-style comfortable. Like staying in someone's enormous and much used family home--nothing luxurious, a bit frayed around the edges, remodeling could be a good idea, but all-in-all, very satisfactory. With wonderful breakfasts.
