“Great lunch stop”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

We've only tried this place for lunch to date, but were glad we did; the food is so good.....all home made ......and the lunch specials were excellently tasty. One of the best things about this place is the consistently friendly welcome and the genuine wish to please the customer. Prices are good value, and having just visited today...a drizzly Tuesday.....at least 5 tables were occupied in an otherwise very quiet Bampton. Folk obviously know about, and value this place.
Bampton also boasts a brilliant bakery, and a wonderful old fashioned butchers, so it all makes for an excellent couple of hours if you are ever free, and are wanting something which will not disappoint.

“A special event made perfect”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

The Toucan has just hosted a special event for the local writers' group that I lead: a two-course supper, with readings between courses by each of the writers. We couldn't have asked for anything better: almost all the tables taken, an appreciative audience and fabulous food. And, as we all agreed, incredibly good value.

With a choice of three different dishes in each course, all of which were delicious, I went for the vegetarian option, roasted beetroot, goats cheese and cranberry pancake (a perfect combination) with jacket wedges and salad, followed by a heavenly summer berry pavlova. Also on the menu: salmon and herb fish cakes and chicken chicken with thyme, shallots, bacon and mushrooms, both of which were served with baby potatoes and seasonal vegetables (or salad with the fishcakes). The other pudding choices were sticky rhubarb and strawberry pudding and traditional lemon tart. There were 12 people at our table and the plates all went back squeaky clean, always a good sign!

It was such a convivial evening, enjoyed by everyone, and the Toucan's owners, Julia and Katrina, and our waitress all made sure that everything worked perfectly, despite it being the hottest night of the year.

The Toucan is understandably popular with those of us who live nearby but if you are visiting the area, make a point of seeking it out during the day or for one of its theme evenings or special events. You won't be disappointed.
