“Beautiful, relaxing, luxurious...shame we couldn't stay forever...”
Reviewed August 22, 2012

Hotel exactly as described on website, and met all our expectations, providing the relaxing luxurious holiday we hoped for. Two-storey 'bungalow' decorated in smart, modern style and spacious living space with balcony and sea view, which was one of the things that really appealed to us. Staff helpful and obliging, always keen to help with excellent English spoken. Site really pretty, and well maintained. Pool attractively located and well maintained, with bar manned all day providing drinks, snacks and lunch from the restaurant. Restaurant quite pricey, but food was very good; wide selection of Cypriot and international dishes, beautifully presented, excellent quality. Restaurant attractive, particularly terrace tables (though these were in demand!) and staff quietly attentive. Big selection available for breakfast; cereal, fresh fruit, biscuits, bread/toast, dried fruit, cheeses, meats, olives as well as cooked selection of omelettes, eggs or Full English. Hotel arranged taxis for us to visit Kyrenia and also to visit St Hilarion's Castle, and these trips were very reasonably priced. We'd love to return, either here or elsewhere in North Cyprus, but would perhaps choose a time of year when it was slightly cooler to enable more comfortable sight-seeing, although the heat was great for reading in the shade around the pool or on our balcony! We booked a week through Anatolian Sky, on a bed and breakfast basis with 3 nights half board. Although the restaurant is lovely, there are plenty of places in Bellapais to eat in too, and we felt it was nice to have the opportunity to try them too. Highly recommended!!

Room Tip: Choose one of the two-storey 'bungalows'

We have just returned from out ninth stay at this hotel. That in itself tells you a lot. It is tucked away in the village of Bellapais in the shadow of the magnificant Bellapais Abbey. You can lie in the pool and look up at the Abbey walls.A wonderful juxtaposition of contemporary and ancient. The hotel is set in beautiful almost semi tropical gardens. The rooms are either two storey cottages with balcony, first floor single storey apartment with balcony and ground floor apartment with a terrace. You get around using small paths through the gardens and steps to the pool. Some of the routes to and from the restaurant and down to the pool are on the steep side.If you struggle a bit to get around you should think twice about coming.
The pool is for residents only and has plenty of umbrellas and beds. There is a pool bar and and you can take lunch at the bar as you wish. There is no music,
no shouting,no loutish behaviour.Perfect,peaceful,civilised. Don't go if you want games, aqua aerobics,or exhibitionist behaviour. The only sound is of friendly ,discreet conversation, the clink of ice on glass or the turning of pages.A no children policy helps this gentle ambience.
Food at breakfast is superb. A large buffet of cereals, friut, cold meats, yogurt, dried fruit, jams, honey, cheeses, biscuits and a range of breads which can be toasted. There is butter, milk ,a choice of fruit juices including freshly squeezed orange juice.Tea ,a choice of coffees, cooked eggs in all their guises and English breakfast. If you don't enjoy breakfast you should see a doctor!
Dinner in the same restaurant is superb. This hotel restaurant is among the best in Cyprus and holds its own with top quality restaurants anywhere in the world. It is overseen by Chef Selim who is the brother of the General Manager Erkan. It is very professionally run with marvellous waiting staff. There are marvellous views over Kyrenia but you will need to book for most evenings.Remember this restaurant is a popular venue in North Cyprus.
The hotel is family run and you become part of the family the more you stay. The whole ethos and spirit of the hotel and restaurant is based on old style family values. If you don't like the old conservative values don't go.There are no hidden charges for aircon, pool towels etc. Nothing is too much trouble, the staff are ,without exception, able and willing to help you. They are friendly and cheerful. If you do not leave a good gratuity for them you are a truly miserable, souless person.
Rooms are serviced everyday and the whole place is immaculate.
A taxi to Kyrenia will cost you 15 TL.with all its sights and restaurants. If you have a car it takes about 10 minutes (watch the speed cameras) to drive and you can park all day for 3 TL.Within Bellapais you can walk from the hotel ,in 10 minutes, to a variety of restaurants, a couple of bars and of course the Abbey itself.
I must be mad telling you all this!

Room Tip: All are good, all have aircon, fridge and are ensuite.Choose on price, and whether you want an actual...

My wife and I stayed here in July 12 and we can't fault the personal and high quality experience. From the sandwich and beer after midnight having just landed, hungry and tired to the fab room, wonderful pool and setting. The owners and staff were ever present, open engaging and friendly . The food was great in the restaurant with the most fantastic view. We read lots, slept lots, ate too much and made new friends. All this with Omar Shariff and the Kingdom of Yusuf??? We'll be going back...what's not to like?!

This is not so much a review, more of an open response to the entry by Phil G from Nottingham dated 4th July 2012.

Phil – I would not question your right to inform us all of your personal and presumably honest experience of your time spent at the Bellapais Gardens Hotel. However your comment, and I quote, “this place is more for a lads holiday not a relaxing break” is most misleading to anyone who hasn’t stayed at the BG before. In fact, are you confusing the BG with another hotel?

Bellapais is a small quiet village in the mountains. The BG is a boutique hotel comprising of 17 cottages set in a Conservation Area. Guests tend to be couples of all age groups who seek and enjoy a restful, relaxing and peaceful holiday amongst beautiful gardens, scenery and swimming pool. No loud music, no disco into the early hours of the morning, no free single girls, no orgies, no drunken singing – definitely not a place for “a lads holiday”.

My wife and I have stayed at the BG for the past 5 years and have already booked for 2013. During this time we have made many friends with new and fellow returning guests together with members of staff. In our experience the service, attention and food has always been first class.

So Phil, assuming you did stay at the BG, I’m sorry that your own experience did not meet the “Excellent” standard appreciated by 76 out of 89 other reviewers to date.

Room Tip: If you can manage stairs, choose first floor accommodation for the best views

We have just returned from our fourth visit to Bellapais Gardens Hotel. It just gets better every time. Once again we cherished the beautiful location of the hotel which nestles in the foot hiils of Bellapais Abbey. The Hotel itself is situated in it's own glorious gardens which are kept well tended and the Gardener always greets the guests with a cheery greeting. The seventeen rooms are a delight, each with a stunning view from the balcony towards the Mediteranean and are immaculatley kept to a very high standard.
The restaurant where breakfast is served ( always a wide choice of excellent food). Evening dinner is also excellent and you can enjoy the ambience of eating your meal whilst experiencing the panoramic view towards Kyrenia and the special atmosphere and cuisine which is provided by Selim and his excllent staff.Should you need any assistance or advice, Erkan ,Akile, Selim and other members of staff are always readily available. Wherever you may be in the hotel,at the pool or in the restaurant, first class service is second to none. Our thanks to every one.......Sad to leave. Happy to return.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent

You know they say you pay for what you get, and indeed this is the case at Bellapais Gardens Hotel. Bellapais Gardens is a stylish, luxury, relaxing and romantic hotel.
My husband and I have been going to Bellapais Gardens for some Six Years. The family run hotel is our magical safe haven and we regard the family, staff and guests here as our second family.
The service is always amazing, the staff always work hard to make our stay comfortable, and nothing is ever too much. The restaurant is always serving beautiful fresh local produce, which allot of the fruits and vegetables come from their Hillside Gardens. I believe you go on holiday to relax, and that we do.
I have never in all the years we have stayed at Bellapais Gardens experienced rudeness, bad service or any other negative issues. We have befriended many other amazing couples at Bellapais Gardens and we are still friends to date. I cannot believe some of the bad reviews I have seen about Bellapais Gardens on trip advisor and can only tell you, what I have read is totally untrue. I am happy to answer any questions anyone wishes to ask me about this amazing holiday destination. As a frequent visitor, I can tell you that this wonderful place should not be a missed opportunity. We don't normally return the same place, but my wife and I have just returned from our third stay at Bellapais gardens hotel. We've booked for next year. This is a family run hotel where staff all know you by your first name from day 2 at the latest. The situation is the most peaceful and relaxing, looking out over the valley towards Kyrenia and the sea. It's perched along the edge of Bellapais village and beneath the beautiful Bellapais Abbey. The accommodation comprises of 11 attractive air-conditioned two storey cottages, all of which have a balcony with stunning outlook. Locals and visitors come to the hotel form afar due to it's reputation as having one of the best restaurants in N Cyprus. This is not snobbish nouveau cuisine, but superb cooking presented in a breathtaking setting. We have travelled to many places such the Maldives, Sri Lanka and Malawi and Bellapais Gardens is up to the same level of quality and relaxation. Go there once and you'll probably return!

Room Tip: They are all good. Our favourite is room 5.
