“I loved every minute!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2013

My husband and I stayed in the cliff house. It was very romantic and the view was spectacular. We watched whales, dolphins, humming birds etc..
Margo and Kevin were so welcoming and I will miss them. We met so many wonderful people there.
The food was soooooo good. The staff were all gracious and helpful.
We loved our time there.
Thank you for for such a wonderful experience

Room Tip: The cliff house had an excellent view

We arrived on the crest of a Pacific wave, quickly jumping off on to the most perfect sandy beach, backed by jungle. Our hosts Kevin and Margot were the most generous, lovely people who make sure you have a wonderful stay. Their chef is brilliant, but we couldn't keep up with the generosity of his portions! It is the most relaxing place to be, and at night it turns into a magical hidaway, totally lit by candles. I am still dreaming about it now...
Great hike to neighbouring village, kayaks, and 4 gorgeous labradors. One of them will even tell you when whales are out at sea, by running up & down the beach, barking!
Our house was called Chula: lovely but I would like to cut down a bit of jungle to improve the view. Great outdoor bathroom. Brilliant staff. Communal dining works well and we met some lovely guests. A little chilly at night, but with an extra blanket all was OK.

If you have been longing for a peaceful, secluded Mexican vacation, of the sort you used to get 20 years ago, then this is for you. My husband and I had a wonderful time. The food, hospitality and ambiance were fantastic. I had read about the candle light, but was enchanted the first night when we got up to walk back to our casita and found our way lit by (what seemed like) hundreds of sparkling votives. It was magical.

We stayed in the "Los Arcos" casita. It was just the two of us, but it is well set up for two couples as the two rooms (both with en suite bath) are at opposite ends of the open air "living room." The whole place has a sweeping view of the bay. Since Los Arcos is right on the beach you hear the waves lapping on the sand and shorebirds in the morning. We loved it. It is one of the original structures on the property, so it has some (12-volt) electric light beside the bed and in the bathroom. Not that lighting is a problem, if you love candles. The staff set your casita aglow while you're at dinner every night.

Kevin is a terrific bartender and a ping pong shark. Beware his "home table advantage" if you get challenged to a game. Be sure to try his "Rum Fizz" drink made with special Cuban rum and limes.

The "Pirate Ship" that shows up in the afternoon is not a big deal if you just set up camp on Majahuitas' private section of beach or go on an afternoon excursion. They're gone before the best part of the late afternoon, and are really good about packing up when they go.

As many others have said, this is a great place to unwind if you don't mind things a little rustic. The running water in the shower can be a little lethargic (but the sink and toilet worked great), and the hot water was a little hit or miss. Being right on the sea with an open air floor plans gives things a "well weathered" patina. Having said that, everything was very clean, the bed comfortable and daily staff very friendly and helpful.

If you crave a lot of action (i.e. nightlife, shopping, parasailing and jet skis) please keep looking. Majahuitas is NOT the place for you. We love it exactly the way it is, and hope it doesn't change.

Room Tip: Los Arcos casita is great if you want to be closest to the water, but it is one of the farthest from...

Thank you Kevin and Margo for running one of the best hidden little secrets on earth. Tom and I could not have imagined our stay to be any better. Food was outstanding and you two are by far some of the best people we've met! Can not wait to do it again. Until we meet again!!

Let me start my review with the only negative of this resort. It is not for everyone.
That being said, if you can handle an open air casita, serene beach cove, your own private chef making fresh Mexican meals, great company, and no worries in the world then this is for you!
Upon arrival from your 20-30 minute boat ride in a small fishing type boat (because the only way you can get here is by boat) you are greated by several staff members to assist you in grabbing your luggage as you run to avoid the next wave from grabbing your feet.
After a brief check in to confirm your food preferences (ie. vegan, vegetarian, no onions, etc) and favorite morning beverage you are guiding to your own casita.
We were lucky enough to stay in the Cliff House which was situated above the cove of Majahuitas. The only downside to our house is that it was over 60 stairs to reach our little home. Otherwise our room was equipped with separate bedrooms, 2 toilets, 2 showers, and 2 sinks. Since it was just my wife and I we each took our own bathroom which worked out very nicely. The waves at night were louder than expected and it was a little difficult to sleep the first night but sleep seemed to go fine after that first night.
The GONG sounds when all meals are ready to go. Breakfast and Lunch with the group you came with. Dinner is eaten family style with one large table including all the guests.
Each meal was unique and the food was phenominal. We eat out a lot and we eat a lot of Mexican food and this food was GREAT! I won't give away too much about the menu because I think the surprise is fun. If you do not want to be surprised, let the staff know and they will customize your meals to meet your wants and needs.
There are optional activities to take part in. Generally, there is one activity in the morning each day that some take part in and some do not. We took part in everything and we really enjoyed everything. The hike through the jungle (as I call it) was a lot of fun. It was a long walk and you better be in decent shape to finish it. It culminates with some cool looking falls. Again, I don't want to give away the extra fun pieces of thie hike but I think it is worth going on.
We went on a zip-line tour that we paid extra for but was organized through the resort. As someone who is deathly afraid of heights, I dealt with my fear and the staff there was great in making sure everyone feels very safe. The zipline company is an American owned company (take that for what it is worth).
On another day, we took advantage of the kayaks and snorkle gear and did a little snorkling. Make sure to ask for some bread from the staff before going and you will see hundreds of fish surround you.

There are probably several things we are forgetting to mention but to me the most important things to note are that the staff members are EXCELLENT. They go above and beyond to make sure your stay and experience are 5 star. Second, you feel nothing but safe at the resort and in your open air casita. Although I had nightmares of indigenous people raiding our casita, after going on the hike you realize that nobody lives within an hour of this place. There are not wild tigers or sharks to worry about either. Lastly, the environment is very much on Mexican time. Chill, relax, and enjoy life. You being to ask yourself why do I work so hard to enjoy this for only a few days?

Thank you to the staff and the other guest that stayed with us. We made some great friends during our stay and we hope to see you all again sooner than later!

This was our second trip to Majahuitas. The first time, we came alone and loved it. The second time, we brought two other couples. Its extremely hard to find a place that is as beautiful, intimate, welcoming and delightful as Majahuitas. Kevin, Margot and the staff go the extra mile to make things 'just right'. The food is uniformly delicious and there is plenty to do there. Its a remote place without a lot of 'trappings'. But simplicity is bliss and Majahuitas is heaven.

Room Tip: All of the casitas are very nice. We loved the Cliff house but many of the others are also very nice...

If you want a place that is a challenge to reach, because when you get there it is the best place ever - then go here. Margot and Kevin give you a warm welcome which results in immediate relaxation and peace of mind. All is done with no fuss but perfect attention. The staff are always ready to help and very friendly but somehow invisible, so no pressure! The houses are all different but desirable for their differences. The food is so good that I would challenge you not to eat everything every day for however long you can stay.
Two important facts: if you want a butler and accompanying luxury, it is not here.
If you want absolute comfort, ease, peace and anything you can think of, it will be here.
In all my travels it is one of two places to which I would love to return.

Room Tip: All different but well cleaned, working order, comfortable.
