“Iceland in May 2014”
Reviewed May 9, 2014

Just returned from a stay at Minna-Mosfell Guesthouse, it was wonderful. Each morning after our breakfast of home made breads and anything else we wanted the Mrs. would tell us about an exciting site seeing drive with suggestions on what to do. We had to leave a little early but our last drive was exciting with lots of twists and turns and spectacular views. We would definitely return to this quaint guesthouse for more adventures in the spectacular country of Iceland.

Gudrun and Valur were kind enough to "take us in" on a cold, windy April evening (cold even for Alaskans). They had been closed for a week doing renovations, but bustled around for an hour and readied a room for us.
Lovely hosts - helpful, not hovering. Immaculate rooms and accommodations. Scrumptious breakfast including lava bread. Forget Lonely Planet - Gudrun is the best travel guide. Listen to her.......love to see this farm is summer - and someday I hope to!

And Gudrun and Valur are both incredible people. Valur built the brand new deck and hot tub by hand! It's close to Reykjavik (I'd stay here instead of in town if I were exploring the city) and we will definitely be back in the future. Excellent communication beforehand and all in all, just great people. And CORAL! The horse!

We just spent three nights at the Minna-Mosfell guesthouse just north of Reykjavik. It is without doubt one of the best places I have ever stayed. Hosts Gudrun and Valur were welcoming and helpful as well as being great company. Their guesthouse is amazing and the location can't be beaten. They have a small herd of Icelandic ponies, an outdoor geothermal hot tub, great views and lovely rooms. I will return.

We stayed for two nights in April. Loved the view from our room. Good breakfast, very clean bathroom and we enjoyed the hot tub very much. It was our first time to try it. Great experience. Pretty good location too.

I was here on my own for 2 days and was really sad having to leave this wonderful house and this amazing couple! My room was comfortable and clean. The kitchen was perfect and in the morning fresh bread awaited me. Also fresh cakes each afternoon! Gudrun and Valor helped me plan my day and had thermoses if I needed one. There is also a hot tub that was filled for my enjoyment. They were very helpful when I got into some trouble in my adventures. It was like being at home with wonderful people. I want to go back to Iceland just to see them again! Wonderful people, wonderful location, fabulous breakfast! One of the best places I've ever stayed in the world! Thanks to Gudrun and Valor for everything!

My husband and I were scheduled to stay 3 nights at Minna-Mosfell and then 3 nights somewhere else. We ended up staying the full 6 nights at Minna-Mosfell because the service and location were that good. The guesthouse is essentially a 3 bedroom apartment situated on the upper floor of a farmhouse; Gudrun and Valur (the owners) live down stairs. Each room is rented individually and has its own desk, sitting area and sink in addition to the normal bedroom furniture. There is also a common living space and kitchen. Everything is tidy and immaculately clean. The guesthouse is situated an easy 20 minute drive from downtown Reykjavik and 30 minutes down the road from Thingvellir, making it ideal for both day trips downtown and the Golden Circle, but quiet, relaxing and away from the crowds. Also, for those interested, the internet connection is very reliable.

The best thing about Minna-Mosfell were the owners. Gudrun and Valur are warm, welcoming and thoroughly attentive. Breakfast is included in the cost of the room, and the fridge is always stocked with milk, fruit juices, fruits, eggs from Valur's chickens, breakfast meats, cheese, yogurt, etc., etc. In addition, Gudrun leaves some home-baked treats every morning, sometimes delicious hearty bread, sometimes delicate and delectable pancakes, sometimes Kleina (Icelandic twist donuts and my personal favorite), and usually some sort of cake or treat in the afternoon as well.

In the morning, when we were awake and breakfasting, Gudrun would always come up to check in on us and ask about our plans for the day. We were there mid-March and the weather was quite unpredictable, so our plans ended up being much more flexible than anticipated. Gudrun was always ready with a Plan B for us when the winds or the road conditions forced us to abandon our originally scheduled hike or glacier walk. Her advice was always spot on; she knows the good museums, restaurants and local attractions, especially the swimming pools, which are outdoors, heated and AMAZING. She stopped by in the evenings too, to make sure our day was fun and to discuss the likelihood of seeing the Northern lights that night. The Lights are often visible from the guesthouse itself, but we unfortunately did not get to see them. Either way, having Gudrun around, we were never wanting for food or a travel guide.

We will definitely be going back to Iceland some summer to do all the hiking we missed, and we WILL stay in Minna-Mosfell again. Book in advance because she fills up during the summer and rightly so.

Room Tip: There are two doubles and one single. The south room has better views during the day, but you can s...
