We visited the Hotel Laxnes from the15/3/14 to 19/3/14.It is a very nice hotel, clean and warm with views of the mountains. The breakfast is ok, but watch the toaster, I set off the smoke alarm, oops, porridge really good. It's about 15-20mins by bus from Reykjavik which is really easy. Would highly recommend this hotel. I spoke to Shaun before we arrived and he was extremely helpful with info about trips and where to eat. The Sports bar is good and you get a discount if you show your room key.

We booked two rooms for our recent stay and we were very happy with our choice of accommodation! The first room was on the ground floor, a self catering style room with a fridge and sink area. The room had a walk in shower in the en-suite and two single beds pushed together both with single duvets. The second room was on the first floor and has a roof Window that becomes a small balcony! This room also had two single beds pushed together with single duvets. Both rooms we're very clean, had very comfortable beds and with tea/coffee making facilities! The heating in the rooms was incredible, the rooms get so warm and very quickly, which was great as it was very cold and snowy outside! Each room has a hand towel and a small bath towel per guest (we asked for another one, which we got very quickly) The views from the rooms were both brilliant looking out over the mountains. The hotel is styled like an American Motel with a museum of Icelandic history! The bar/lobby area are filled with pictures, books and even stuffed animals! The bar has a large pool table and two screens for sports, one being a large pull down screen! The barman Chris makes a delicious banoffee pie cocktail! The breakfast is simple but plentiful... Including ham, cheese, toast, tuna mayo, a section of salad items and crackers. Also they serve a porridge which is ready made in a slow cook type pot then you can add a selection of cinnamon sugar, raisins, yoghurt or banana! It was a very popular choice with many guests! We were very lucky to see the northern lights during our stay and they were spectacular but only because I was checking cloud coverage and stayed awake looking for them til 1am! There was no wake up service as advertised and many guests we spoke to were very disappointed to have missed out! So make sure you have an arrangement or you stay up looking! Nearby the Laxnes hotel is a KFC, a delicious bakery, subway, a supermarket and a sports bar! The hotel is a short bus ride from Reykjavik and the bus stop is right outside, bus 15 will take you there in about 20 minutes. The one thing that makes this hotel such a great place to stay is the manager Shaun! Such a welcoming and friendly man, seemed like nothing was to much trouble. He gave us great suggestion on what to do/where to eat etc! We pre booked our excursions via email before arriving which Shaun arranged them all for us! We did the golden circle by super jeep, snowmobiling, horse riding at laxnes horse farm, a day at the blue Lagoon and dinner at the vikings village (highly recommend them all) Thank you to Shaun for helping us make the most of our time in Iceland! Overall I would definitely recommended the Laxnes hotel.. A warm, friendly place to stay with beautiful views!

The reviews is the reason we booked to stay here and it definitely lived up to expectation!
Perfect location for us, 20 mins from the centre of town. Sean (the manager) could not have helped us anymore! Advised us on all of our excursions and We were far from disappointed.
The Blue lagoon is great and we also did the golden circle with snowmobiling which was the most breathtaking experience I've ever had. To top it off on our final night we were fortunate enough to see the northern lights.
I will definitely be recommending laxnes to any of my friends.
Thank you so much.
Pity we didn't get to say goodbye.
Jamie & Soph.

Location - we thought it was excellent, as it was out the way and it's dark to see the lights. Nothing round there though. Sports bar / KFC / supermarket. The hotel does lambs soup at tea time, that's the only food it does, which is a shame. You can get bus to Reykjavik right outside. We seen the lights above the hotel and the guy (who looks like he's a vampire) runs round and tells everyone.

Trips - book all your trips on line before you go, wish we had done that. There's only two operators on the whole island haha. Do northern light trip soon as because if you don't see them you can go again for free, wrap up its freezing. Don't bother taking smart phone ipad, it can't see them. Golden circle was ok, and a day out. Felt like they were trying to find things to do, we should of just done the half day. Blue lagoon yes, and we should of done whale watching. They sting you big time when the stop for a drink, and the prices are expensive.

Hotel - it's location is great as out of the way. Rooms need updating but clean so that ok, the HEAT was unbearable and needed to open windows lol, couldn't sleep. Nice and quiet, but didn't like all the load local men coming in the bar to watch sport, and stashing their beers behind the bar, and then they charge us £10 nearly for 2 pints of larger.

Money - Everything is expensive, so be prepared. Book exchange weeks before as it's hard to get hold of.

Overall - good for a short visit, beautiful and baron place. Expensive.

Room Tip: Get a room that faces the mountains, best for the lights

Stayed there for 5 nights and was a delight to be there. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and suggested activities which helped us make the most of our trip to Reykjavik! Very comfortable and cosy- almost felt like I was at home. 5* quality all the way through. Only small downpoint was no hairdryer or toiletries in the room, but other than that the experience itself was lovely. Definitely will go back there!
