Stayed here for 3 nights. It had everything we needed and more; a very pleasant spot outside of Reykjavik, but also very easy to get to downtown; only a half hour bus journey almost straight from the doorstep. Served by several of the main touring companies as a pickup/drop off. Fantastic views of the mountains, the ability to see the Northern Lights fom the hotel (we didn't this time but that was just down to weather), and a nice number of restaurants and bars nearby - particularly the Alafossi (recommended by the hotel manager). Staff very pleasant and helpful, full of information, and also willing to help give advice and book tours for you. Recommended.

Had a lovely comfy stay at the Hotel Laxnes ,the location and the staff made my holiday perfect It is a 3 star hotel about 15 minutes from Reykjavik. It has loads of character and the rooms are spacious and all have mountain views. I choose the hotel mainly for the location and the past reviews which I found true. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a peaceful stay, it is not suitable if you want to party as the hotel is in a small village away from the madding crowd. The staff are welcoming and attentive and the price is affordable.. Barbara Chester UK

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights in February. Family break - had a good sized room for 3. Price was very good and included a buffet breakfast.

Staff were helpful throughout and the Icelandic people are very welcoming wherever you go.

Geat base for exploring some inland sights such as Geysir and Gullfoss and equally good for the capital city, airport and blue lagoon.

Room could have done with a little TLC - nothing dramatic - but for example, the balcony door did not lock. This was not an issue as we were on the first floor, but this and a couple of other small items stop it getting top marks. Overall, Very Good value for money.

Room Tip: Balcony view of the mountains at the rear of hotel is probably the best view.

Came to Iceland on a short weekend trip and decided to stay out of the city center and have a nice countrylike feeling. A friend had recommende this place to me and it was totally up to expectation. A peaceful down to earth haven with nice evening walk to a great restaurant "Ålafoss". KFC next door was convenient and a very pleasent small pub connected to the hotel. The rooms are as expected not luxurious but had the most important attributes. Warm, clean, excellent view and the bed gave me a really needed good night sleep. The service was very friendly and quite family like, felt at home right away. The staff showed me interrest and wanted to make my short stay memorable and so they did. The breakfast wasn't continental but it had what I wanted, fresh and warm. Shaun, Max and rest off the staff, a big thx for a memorable time. I am coming back for SURE.

Stayed for my 50 th birthday. We hired a car which was great as weather not good so meant we could be flexible and be ahead of the tours. Gullfoss at 10.30 am with only a few people was lovely. Tours arrived and the place was full. We were there in just over an hour. Free refills of the soup!
Hotel was great. I have never meet such happy friendly staff. Our flight was cancelled so we arrived at 12.30. am. Called the number on the door and Sean arrived. I am sure he had got out of bed. He was so nice to us and was nothing was a problem, imagine that in the UK.
The hotel was warm, comfortable and they were happy to provide kettles etc. The reviews had given us lots of advice so we knew to book the mountain view rooms. The beds were great, best nights sleep I have had for ages. Breakfast fine had all we needed. If you want 5 star stay in town.
Meal at Alafossi excellent, the waterfall was beautiful and the directions from the hotel were an easy walk even in the dark. Lamb soup wonderful.
We will return to this hotel as the views are beautiful, staff so helpful and access to sights so easy.
Go it is an amazing country. Do the Blue lagoon before your flight home, very relaxing.

Room Tip: Mountain view upstairs room 10

I booked this accommodation having wanted to stay somewhere outside of Reykjavik and having read the "glowing" reviews this place seemed ideal. I sent an email in early January 2013 to make a reservation and received an immediate response from Nunu confirming an upstairs double deluxe room with small balcony and mountain view for 80 Euros per night including breakfast......great!! We arrived at about 3pm on Sunday 24th February and were shown to our room - no 23. Upon arriving we were greeted by an overwhelming smell of drains from the bathroom. As we were keen to get out and about we put the smell down to the room not having being recently used and after a shower / bath we expected the smell would disappear. We returned to the room and after a shower and bath the smell was just as bad. At this point I checked the email reservation and noted we hadn't been given "the upstairs room with balcony" and also from the website the deluxe double rooms were being offered for 75 Euros per night (not the 80 we had been charged on arrival - incidentally is it usual in Iceland to have your credit card charged on arrival at a hotel as opposed to check out??). Given the atrocious smell my wife complained at reception and asked for a room change. The young man on reception advised that the manager was not in that day and given they were nearly full there was nothing further that could be done - come back in the morning. That night the smell was horrendous!! Other issues with that room included the poor lighting (mentioned in someone else's review), the loose bathroom tap, the lack of bedside cabinets / bedside lighting and the collection of black hairs (not ours) found in our bedding. The next morning we returned to reception and explained the problems. The guy on reception tried to blame the smell on the sulphurous water ( we've stayed in Iceland before - this smell wasn't sulphur!) no apology and throughout our conversation he couldn't even make eye contact. He eventually offered to move us to a studio next door for no extra charge!! (Hardly surprising given we'd been overcharged a suite price anyway!!). Whilst not fabulous the studiowas a considerable improvement on Room 23. When we checked out we did receive an apology........for the lack of Northern Lights......nothing about the room!!

It looks like there may have been a change in management / standards since the previous reviews on this place. We spoke to a couple of other guests during our stay and they were also surprised at how "average" the place was when compared to the reviews. There are much better places to stay in Iceland for much the same price....shop around!!

Nice large studio room but there was the odd cobweb and a not so nice smell of drains coming from the bathroom. The room was also very hot and could not find a temperature control. You are a bit of a way out but bus service is good and the hotel staff were friendly enough. Breakfast was basic but good enough. All in all I would say it was fair value at the budget end but if I was going again I would spend a bit more and stay in Reykjavik itself.
