“Nice stay, nice location, clean room”
Reviewed June 10, 2012 via mobile

Upon arriving (we arrived in Iceland around 6:30 am, check in was 2:00 pm) check in was smooth and easy. The room was very warm because we were on the second floor and on the sun side with a black metal roof, easily fixed by keeping 1 of the 4 skylights cracked open our entire stay. Room was clean, beds were comfortable, wireless Internet was fast and reliable. Only had two issues during our stay, first was the shower/ bathtub drain was clogged and would fill up during your shower. We mentioned it to Marc on our way out the second day, when we returned that night it was not fixed like he said he would. The next morning we went to the free breakfast in the pub and met Shaun Roberts (manager - dark hair) mentioned the issue to him and he said he would personally fix it himself, when we arrived back that night the issue was fixed. The second issue we had was, one morning we were sleeping in and house keeping came knocked once and started to come in. I got to the door and held it shut and said "no thank you!", but they persisted and tried again. Then later while I was in the shower they tried a third time. Went to the front desk and asked for a "DO NOT DISTURB" card (check your room for one), after that there were no more issues.
The hotel is situated in a great location! Very easy access to the min highway and close to the Capitol without being to close. We rented a car and there was plenty of parking spaces. Right around the hotel is a gas station, Subway, KFC, bank, and a few restaurants. Our favorite place to go was the bakery or "bakeri" we went here almost every day for breakfast. It is a cheap and delicious way to start the day especially since food is so expensive in Iceland. Another good place to eat is the pizza shop a few blocks past the bank, real brick oven pizza cooked by wood, also the White Night a sports bar next to the bakery behind the gas station, was good and a decent price.
Shaun was super helpful and very knowledgeable about different excursions we could do, his English was very good. The hotel room was large, we reserved a double room with balcony, and clean. The location couldn't have been better for our daily excursions. The price was great for what you get and the view of the mountains is a welcome sight to wake up to.
If we ever make it back to Iceland this would be very high on our list of places to stay.

This is a great place to stay as a home base for your Iceland trip. Iceland is pretty expensive and Laxnes is relatively cheap. The rooms were clean, comfortable and large enough. The free breakfast is actually very good and will save you a good deal of money considering the cost of food in Iceland. Nearby restaurants are decent as well. It's also a close 15-20 minute drive to the capital.

If you've nevet been to Iceland, be aware, lodging and food is very, very expensive. With that in mind, we tried to weigh our options and find a hotel/hostel that was affordable, and if possible, included breakfast. What we found was Hotel Laxnes, which was by far the best value that we found. Not only are the rooms very nice, but it is in a quiet location, and it included a very nice breakfast. It's not a 5 star hotel or anything, but if you rent a car like we did, or are ok with taking public transportation, it is your best bet. For comparison sake, we looked at the Reykjavik City Hostel. A double room there (private with 2 tiny, uncomfortable beds) was 14,200 kronar (about $115 or so). Then, you had to pay 1,250 kronar/person for linens and another 1,200/person for breakfast. When it is all said and done, for 2 people you are paying about 20,000 kronar, for worse food, less privacy, and less comfort...basically double the price. I definitely see why someone would want to be in the heart of Reyjkavik, but if you have a car or are ok with public transport, then Hotel Laxnes is definitely the way to go.

Great place to stay just outside of Reykjavik in quiet, beautiful surroundings. The staff is friendly & very helpful in arranging tours & airport transport. KFC, Subway, Bakery & restaurant are nearby. Bus stop is right outside to take you into Reykjavik (about 30 min) Antanas is a great driver & guide email antasip@gmail.com or call 345 846 3837.

We stayed at the hotel in May 2012. Fifteen minutes after check in, the owner knocked on the door once and opened the door with his key before we could answer the door. He said he wanted to make sure the cups were clean.

The next morning we were sleeping at 7:00AM and the owner came back and opened the door again, this time without knocking! We immediately checked out. We didn't want to leave our belongings in the hotel unattended.

The hotel was nice, mostly clean, and was also well below other hotel on the price. The owner was polite and extremely helpful, but walking into an occupied room is unacceptable.

Stayed at the hotel for two nights. The studio room was spacious with 4 beds (one double and tw singles). The room was clean. Really nice bathroom. The room had private entrance with free parking right outside the door. Breakfast was simple but good and free. Be aware that the hotel is located 15 minutes drive outside the city center. However, if you are planning to explore the nature including the golden circle, the location is excellent. Staff was friendly. Wireless internet in the rooms was free of charge, and the connection was fast and stable. My children enjoyed the hotels pool table, that was free of charge. In the local area you can find a supermarket that is open from 10am to 10 pm every day. There are also restaurants rather close to the hotel (within 1 km).

On our arrival at Keflavik airport we were greeted by our transfer whom was very polite and very informative as spoke very good English.( We had already booked transfer by email from home.)
We were then driven to mosfellsbaer 50 mins away. We had a good chat with our driver regarding iceland whom we organised to collect us on return in a weeks time.
We were greeted in reception at the hotel Laxnes and given some details regarding breakfast times and about the surrounding areas where to eat and bus stop details. Then taken straight to our room, which was a very clean and very warm appartment. Containing twin beds kitchenette with fridge sink and 2 hob rings.( We didn't need to cook once) A few pans plates cutlery and a kettle teabags are inthe breakfast room in a box you can help yourself to along with sugar cubes. At anytime.
We arrived at 5pm went and settled in and unpacked our cases into a double word robe with hangers which included shelves also shoe area. We had a little chest of draws with a lockable top draw to use as a safe place for passports etc. Also a bed side cabinet with a draw. Bedside lamp each.
On our first night we made our way to up the road to were we had been advised of a sports bar/restaurant called the White Knight. Advised we were entitled to 10% discount if we showed them a card given to is by the hotel laxnes each time we visited. Which we did. It takes only minutes to walk up to the supermarket called Kronan and over to the White Knight. It has blacked out windows with a White knight painted on the glass. We would of never noticed the place if we hadn't been told it was there. The food in there is lovely we ended up going there 3 times in the 7 days. Food is very good but drink is expensive as you will find that everywhere. We also had sub way, kfc a bakery, even a post office and a petrol garage within a few mins walking distance from the laxnes.
We so had a bonus supermarket that was also just a few mins past the bus stop outside the hotel Laxnes. Breakfast is plentiful ham cheese all breads and jams, cereals and even a waffle maker with the batter there for you to make them yourself. Maple syrup jam or honey to top them. I had a waffle everyday. Very nice to.
The number 15 bus stopped right outside our hotel and cost exactly 350 krona each and we had to have the exact money as bus drivers dont give change. The bus takes about 20 mins to the centre of Reykjavik bus station. Once there walk to the back of the bus station. Also you can reuse your bus ticket on another bus within the hour this will be printed on the ticket to inform you what time you purchased it.
Our hotel receptionist shaun organised our day trips to the Golden circle and souh coast. You have to go they are fantastic tour guides. They are such good trips and you have to try the soup made with lamb and loads of veg. You will also need bread rolls. We call it cawl in Wales it's delicious.
We had such a relaxing week celebrating my big birthday the hotel laxnes was in a ideal quiet area and although basic had everything we needed. Looking
Forward to returning in the summer next time.
