Ate here on a Saturday night recently, the place was buzzing and there were plenty of people eating, always a good sign. Only had room for a main course (had eating out at lunchtime...very disappointing meal) sadly, but we will be back for more!
Both meals were tasty and filling and the staff very friendly...
They also serve a good range of beer and cider and Calstock is a great place to walk off a meal...unless its 8pm on a wet Saturday night!

I went there last summer and again a few weeks ago. Since last summer they have hired a new chef and it's now excellent pub grub. They have also cleaned up the place a bit - so no sticky tables or bar any more! :)
The atmosphere is unchanged though, with friendly intelligent and personable bar staff and a good mix of locals and blow-ins. I hear it does get fairly lively on rugby event nights (but in a good way)! On other nights it's a lovely local's pub. Big log fire and lots of space and different areas to sit. I would recommend this pub if you're nearby

We ventured here for lunch after being left disappointed by the drink and food selection at the Tavistock Arms in Gunnislake. It is located next to the River Tamar, about 5-10 minutes drive from the main road.

We found the service to be very good and the clientele a mix of tourists and locals. The food was reasonably priced (£7-£13 a main) and perfectly adequate for our needs. The drink selection, compared with the aforementioned pub, was vast - lots of imported lagers on tap and an plenty of ales (Doombar, Tribute, Otter and Guests).

Calstock really is a lovely little village and the pub is superbly located, with plenty of outdoor seating.

Arrived on spec for lunch 9 of us plus 2 little ones on Sunday ,admittedly late (2 o'clock) I was expecting the often received ,sorry you are too late, instead greeted enthusiastically .Food is very respectable nothing special but basics and very competently done.
The staff are what marks this place out,I'm guessing there are plenty of locals here, and no doubt it's rammed in the summer as it is a beautiful place by the river.
